You can do fine w/out stag femur for sure. Its not a "need" but it is certainly a luxury item with plenty of benefits.

As an example, Adianne's ranger (Aimia) fought me a lot w/ Akars Barrier and she would win on occasion vs me. She switched to Ancient Stag Femur and our very first fight afterwards she killed me when I had everything up. I could be wrong, but I believe her overall success rate vs enemies in RvR has certainly increased since using the Stag Femur.

That would make sense as well since not only are you essentially getting Aug Str and Con 3 (over Akars) but you also gain an extra minute on charge reuse timers. That comes in very handy if you plan on using any sort of charges in combat like a ranged dot charge after desperate bowman or a S/C or D/Q debuff to open up combat.

Once again, its not a need, but it does have some very nice advantages that go with it. About the only negative is you would almost have to switch it out and you would pretty much have to keep a recharge stone on u at all times since it only has 3 charges on it. Oh, and of course the cost factor of acquiring it.

Seriously, Stag Femur did make a difference in my win ratio and survivability against higher RR enemy. And I do carry 3 recharge stones at all times. Just got remember to change back to Befana's...

because if we can use a 75 value charge then there is no need in going 48 pf?

So, I never played on uthgard 1.0, and am trying to startup a melee ranger now on the beta. All I am hearing is that its a waste of time now. What has changed? Are hybrid specs still viable?

I would love to hear from some of the veteran rangers who are in beta about this.
