For melee ranger (expecially for exp) I suggest to raise as much as you can pathfinding. Recurve bow should stay in autotrain and then you can divide your points between weapons and cd, if you want to rvr a bit also stealth

If you want to be blade spec, id go with this spec at 35, with a template.

22+8 Stealth ( ok stealth 100 unit base stealth detected radius + 125 units vs lvl 35 enemy, About 25 units per lvl below targets lvl )

25+8 blades

Autotrained Bow

29+8 Celtic Dual

21 Pathfinding ( Decent Buffs, go 30 PF for best for your level )

This is the spec i would go with, if i wanted to be blade spec and high enough CD.

What is the general opinion on melee rangers? do they cut it against assasins and other enemies? :)

Viper 3 here rules hands down in the stealth wars. Unless that gets changed then I dont really see much changnig that situation.

yes, in assasin vs ranger fight its VERY hard to kill an assasin with viper even if your specially specced melee to win those fights.
i recommend you to play a ns if you want a strong melee stealth class, ranger here suffers many nerfs here comparing to live servers.

dont skill stealth until thidranki then raise it to x+itembonus = 49 or a bit less

went very well for me this way....

also i cant imagine a reason why the staff want to nerf viper 3 stealthers.
(however i can imagine why all non viper 3 stealther want it nerfed)

The way i see it Rangers dont get any interesting combat styles because the Celtic Dual styles and blade styles are still off parry/block... Is this so on Uthgard? Or have they adapted it to Rangers and Nightshades like they did on Live?

edit: assuming Rangers spec Blades as opposed to Pierce (though they don't evade enough for Diamondback to be worth it ?)

hm. so... i`ve got a melee ranger on my own with 40/39/39/35/At spec, and its just awsome.
The dmg is great, the armor also and the sidestun ist just... ftw!!!
So, if u want to deal real dmg as a stealther i think u should do a melee ranger instead of a nightshade. Ok viper 3 is fun, but i still prefere my ranger xD

played a melee ranger on the classic for a long time. i think too that 40/39/39/35 at least at the beginning is the best choice

There's a number of specs I feel would work at RR5...

Higher Weaponskill

50+15 Blades
39 Pathingfinding
35+15 Stealth
23+15 Celtic Dual (only use the side stun, otherwise use Blade styles)

Balanced

39+15 Blades
39+15 Celtic Dual
39 Pathfinding (at RR6 you can drop stealth to 34 and get the next Str buff at 40 Pathfinding)
35+15 Stealth

unless you want level 50 style, there is no need to spec that high in blades, for blades, pierce and blunt you only need composite 51 for maximum effectivnes (also called wyrd spec)

on the other hand for celtic dual you want as much as you can get, every point increases your chance for offhand swing.
