Coming to Uthgard-but what to play?

Hey guys,
My wife and I have decided to save some money and let our Live subscriptions end when May comes and I'd like to continue playing Camelot (great stress reliever!), and I found this place. From my understanding this heralds back to the former days of camelot and some newer classes aren't here, some classes not fully implemented as they are on Live, and leveling is once again something to take into account when making our class choices (is it wrong to be somewhat excited about that?) and explore the realm instead of running BG quests over and over. We talked it over some and decided to play in Hibernia because we weren't as familiar with the Hibernia realm as the other two and it could make leveling more fun as we explore the realm and so on. But now we are not sure what classes to play because we aren't to familiar with playing Hibernian classes to begin with and even less familiar with how the classes perform on Uthgard. We want to play classes that perform well in RvR (the main point), and can also PvE well because we'll have to do a good deal of that. My wife doesn't enjoy single function classes, like Mercenaries and Warriors for example, and tends to like hybrids more (her favorite classes are Heretic and Valkyrie, sadly both missing on Uthgard!). Optimally we'd like to both be able to solo PvE fine and duo well and be competitive and group friendly in RvR (so no stealth classes), but I understand if we're asking for to much with that, especially because the first duo I thought of, Bard and Blade master, isn't possible because she tried the Bard on Live and hated it (not sure the Bard could solo well in PvE anyway?). So any suggestions for classes for us, or at least which classes to avoid here on Uthgard as Hibernians? Is there anything else we should know about before making our classes, or just general leveling advice (auto training is in place here and only "old world" areas are implemented here too, I would venture to assume?)? Thanks for taking the time to read (and hopefully respond!), and see you in game by months end! ![]() |

If you wanna a class that perform good in PvE / Not with single use / Good for RvR for your wife, the best chooice is the Warden, a hybrid Healer/Tank with high utility, in all good gank there is 1/8 and is very funny to play.
For you is good a BM i think, if you wanna exp fast with the Warden and have no problem for spot in group in RvR |
|
If your Wife likes hybrid classes, Warden or Valewalker should be the best choise!
Warden is more a Supporter but can tank some mobs in PvE too. Valewalker is more Melee dmg with a bit Magic dmg! If she choose to be Valewalker you should make a Bard, you will lvl up quite nice. If she wants to be a Warden you can choose any Tank you like and you will be a nice duo to EXP too! Both Valewalker and Warden are pretty nice in Soloing PvE and RvR and really nice for duo ![]() As a Warden the chance to get into a grp in RvR is much higher, as it is for Valewalkers. Oh i forgot the Champion! Champion is a like the Valewalker, a nice Tank with more Defense than Valewalker but less dmg. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll mention it to my wife, she'll probably make one of each on Live and see how she likes them. What would the Bard spec be so that I can solo in PvE too? I probably would make a Blade Master over a Hero or Champion simply because I have decent experience with Mercenaries and know I would probably enjoy the Blade Master. But it really is up to my wife as she has to decide what she wants to play first it seems. What are common Warden specs here on Uthgard?
|
|
The common spec of the Warden for RvR is 49Buff 42Heal... All the Resist, last Self-Haste Buff for interrupt if necessary, last Add Damage and last PBT.
And with 42heal: last Spec Heal, good Fatigue Reduction Buff and good HP Regen Buff for a little improve of the survavibility... You play like a common Healer... But with PBT and the best RA BOT that a group can have... You have AOTG ( Anger of the god ) that combinate with your add damage do in plus a massive ammount of damage, Thornweed Field one of the best RA for Kiting and the Revenement a Istant Heal like the druid have... |
|
Well on Live Warden is very different, there he has Shield Spec - here not!
There are 2 standart Bard speccs: 43 Nurture (best speed/endu songs) 47 Music (best aemezz/insta aemezz) 16 Regrowth (bad heals) and 43 Nurture 37 Music (2nd best aemezz/insta aemezz) 33 Regrowth (nice heals) IMO the 2nd spec is better than the first ![]() Wardenspec for grp is like Daerthe said. I would go 10 Blade for that, because you get a nice Sidesnare! If you plan on playing RvR in duo more you can drop Regrowth to 33 and do more points in Blade for some more dmg. And with that Spec Warden would still be nice for FG. |
|
Well then dont DONT! take ward - go for bard + xy Not because ward +tank is a bad duo, its because of Uthgard rvr situation and flexibility. With bard u can go whereever u want without getting zerged all the time and you can pick up any other toon, when theres a 3/4/5 man grp around without spending hours of searching one. |

The best two toons for PVE raids and RVR groups are Bard and, even more due to rarity, Druid.
With those 2 toons you are virtually in every dropping or rvr expedition. Unfortunately exping would not be very fast and going you 2 alone in rvr would be uneffective. So, since speed and endurance are too much useful while exping, i'd drop druid and replace it with a warden. Pretty much immortal duo in exp and also nice the moment you wanna go in rvr alone ![]() On Uthgard 1.0:
Totenpfeil <Ranger> - Vlath <Hunter> - Toten <Eldritch> - Totentanz <Skald> On Uthgard 2.0: Totenzweig <Druid> - Totentanz <Skald> |

Thank you Daerthe and Gartenkralle for you spec suggestions. Harkon and Badtzmaru, your right I might need to play a Bard but I worry that Warden and Bard would be a pain to level, who is going to do the damage? Unless we both specced Blades for leveling and then respecced out once we hit 50 perhaps? I figure we'll probably have to sacrifice something, either healing, speed, CC, damage, - two characters can't seem to bring it all to the table with the classes available here if my wife doesn't play a Bard or a high damage class like Blade Master or something. It looks like we might just need to decide on if we want to play classes that have high group value and always try to find a damaging class to group with, or sacrifice speed and CC and play Warden+Blade Master or something like that. But maybe my wife will end up playing a ValeWalker and the damage part will be taken care of- I just don't want her to not have fun in RvR or able to get into groups easily (which seems to be a drawback with ValeWalkers).
Thats for the responses all, I think I'll have to wait for my wife to decide on her class now and go from there. Is there a general leveling guide for Hibernia here or a map with level appropriate mobs that I can google online to get a feel for the Hibernia old lands layout? |

I don't think the dmg output of warden is low, because there are many that solo in rvr (not to mention pve). Soloing is off limit for a bard (normally), not for a warden. Btw, you gotta play what enjoy you more! Here's a link. Maps: http://www.valmerwolf.com/mappe/mappe.htm On Uthgard 1.0:
Totenpfeil <Ranger> - Vlath <Hunter> - Toten <Eldritch> - Totentanz <Skald> On Uthgard 2.0: Totenzweig <Druid> - Totentanz <Skald> |

But you can´t really play Warden solo AND grp, you need to respec or you would be pretty bad in grp when you are solo spec and the other way around!

My main concern is that we'd have to spec specifically for solo/duo or for a larger group with a Bard+Warden. I have a quick question though, how well do Mentalists function on Uthgard? Would a Mentalist+Bard be viable for my wife and I?

You are correct Garrett and Garten... You cant be spec'd as a warden for both duo and fg RvR. Its one or the other. One has to have some form of mele spec and the other needs minimal mele spec and all support skills in place.
I would reccomend to think a bit outside the box here. Make a BM and Bard as your duo classes to level up on. You can level those 2 classes up super fast and you can duo in all the BG's if you cant find groups. Then when they hit 50 you will have 2 toons that are needed on almost every raid and have high groupability for frontier RvR. The problem with VW and Champion is that they are not a class in demand for frontier RvR. They do get groups on occasion, but usually only in PUG groups and the occasional high RR group if they know who u are and know you play the class very well. I believe this is since they lack stoicism which Hero's and BM's have access to. Once you have done that and seen some of the other classes perform in PvE and PvP then you can make 2 other toons that you can just use for frontier RvR in solo or duo action. I will say the BM/Bard duo is very nice as well in frontiers. Right now I have a lvl 50 bard and bm for my raids and visi RvR, and then I have a ranger as my main toon that I use for solo RvR. |

Well that is certainly a more practical approach I agree, but our time is fairly limited and we really only want to make one character if possible, at least that is the plan for us right now, since everything is slowed down on Uthgard compared to Live and we're more casual players. It is understandable if we have to sacrifice the ability to XP quickly or if we miss out on being able to heal, or ability to do high damage, as long as we can be self sufficient enough to solo XP while being group friendly too. I'm assuming we'll be mostly playing together however so figured we should try to make our classes mesh together as well as we can. I'm fine with playing most any type of class so I'll just make whatever seems to go well with my wife's choice. I suppose my wife just needs to decide what she wants to play and then go from there, she expressed some interest in the Mentalist class so I'm looking into that possibility and a good class to go with it. |

Sounds like a good answer and way of looking at it.
To make it a bit more simple for you, the average Hib RvR set up is 2xDruids, Bard, Hero, 2-3 BM's, and a light eld. If you run with 2 BM's then usually fill in w/ warden for last sport, or u run w/ the extra dps. Some people will put champs and vw's in place of bm's but not all will. That at least give you an idea of the classes most wanted for frontier RvR. ** As Austerim pointed out I originally stated light ment and I meant to put down eld. Whoops ![]() ![]() Last edited by RonELuvv on Apr 17, 2012 00:55, edited 1 time in total.
