Title says it all fellas!

Uthgard 2.0, will hybrids be viable in Hib groups due to access to Group Purge? Opinions?
I am seriously considering rolling a Champion over a Hero (I know I know, madness!) I am looking to duo with most likely a warden, possibly a bard, but I would still like to option to participate in a viable 8-man setup - 42 shield is an option, not a great one, but it's there.

I know champions are stellar duelers, but what more after that? Can they effectively replace an off-tank (not that BM's are much to talk about, sorry! ps. I don't forsee alb or mid groups running supp RM's or earth theurgs to counter 2h trains) or more so a hero/spearo in peeling?.

I have some concerns in the PvE area as well, but not as important. I understand the lack of defense will give a bit of a disadvantage on the receiving end and downtime may be a bit worse than with a hero. Would probably not be the first pick for Hulks groups due to the inability to really "tank".

My reasoning behind the madness: The versatility with the small man/duo. The snare and debuffs are pretty key in such fights , especially with a lack of charge (I know how crappy it can be to not have a snare or charge as melee). Combining de-haste with PBT is nasty.

Also considered VW...but..eh..

The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

i´d say hib is the most friendly realm when it comes to setups with hybridtanks (in theory^^). On old RA they lack the DET but offtanks lost also their ability to charge that was on a very small cooldown. Tankmovement will be slower after all (except tanks on sos!)
VW/champ would work in tanky pushsetups with at least two other det5 tanks and 2 bards if possible OR massive GP-dump against mezzes!

But noone will do it anyways :S

I can still see champions being viable in 8v8 scenarios, but only time will tell.

To answer this question you would need to ask yourself, do you have a set 8 man to play with? Zerging? PvE? what?

Some of the top 8v8 groups on hib in the original days ran 2 hero and 1 champ in their group for the snares+debuffs to burst someone down. All in all, any good group can run either (usually both) and in my opinion having the extra utility is very nice.

Bard, hero (guard/peel), chanter, eld, chanter, Druid, Druid, insert extra here.
That's 4 pets, loads of short duration CC and a LOT of pain.
Then again, once pet gets cc'd

VW/Champ is good choice for duo with bard or small man groups and I would say champ is better choice here, because of the debuffs and shield slam/block.

Hero/Bm have the better group utility but are good too for small man or duo too, so their total use is higher, because they are not limited to duo/small man groups.

Tanks without det. are a weakness for groups in my opinion, because a cc´ed tank is like a dead group member, no push, no pressure, no big action= easy to handle by enemy groups. Some ppl might say it doesn ´t matter if you don ´t have det. and the root/mezz is 10sec. more or less are unimportant. I think that ´s wrong, even 10 sec. can be like eternity in rvr and can make a big difference in result of fights.

If you ´ve a strong guild/pug/bard by your side, it doesn ´t matter so much what you pick, because they can compensate a hybrid when they know how to play. But if you don ´t have a good/big reputation you will having problems finding a group in rvr, I guess.
