Hello all,

My brother and I have decided to play on Hibernia as a VW + Warden duo, however since life sometimes gets in the way and playing times may differ, I really want a second character to play around with!

I'd consider myself a complete newbie to DAoC, I did play it, for a short period of time, say, 15 years ago or so. So I'd like some help in figuring out what class would be suitable as an alt!

I want a caster, that I'm sure of, I just can't decide which one! I've been reading up on Animist, Eldricht, Enchanter and Mentalist, they all seem fairly 'similar', atleast to my untrained eye!

What I'd want is the one which is most similar to a Tamer in UO or a Warlock/Hunter in WoW. A resilient pet for tanking and slow and steady damage from myself. There's no requirement in killing mobs quickly, but I would like to avoid alot of downtime, atleast in the form of just sitting on the ground..

Now, I'm not even sure this is possible in DAoC, but I thought I'd atleast ask :>

Thanks in advance for any help and answers!

Well, if you're looking for a pet class, that will really limit you to either Enchanter or Mentalist. Of those 2, only the mentalist has their own power regen buff to reduce downtime (though it is in a different spec path than their charm spell).

The pet aspect of the mentalist is a little bit trickier as well, since you don't summon your pet, but you have to find one and charm it.

Mentalist is your way. You can: mana reg, heal over time, charm, heal, dmg even aoe or a damage over time even aoe and dmage shield. And in combination with a enchanter, you do highest dmg in daoc. Even in raids you are a coreclass

The above responses may be misleading for somebody not too familiar with daoc and class mechanics.

As a mentalist, u cant have the charmable pet and mana regen buff (often refered to as "crack" - self-explanatory) while lvling - they are different specs - mana spec for mana regen, health regen (HoT), single target spec dot and ae spec dot; light spec for top tier single target DD, ae DD and charm. Unless ur gonna go solo all the way (not recommended for new-ish players), u will want to spec mana, as crack (power regen buff) is the most important thing grps care about when considering whether to invite the ment or not.

Enchanter is the class that summons own pet and can have it up all the time, ala WoW's lock/hunter. Mana spec here gives u focus dmg shield and pbaoe - a solid combination for lvling solo or grped.

If you're solo most of the time on the caster, i'd go with chanter - u get speed for all the hking u will be doing and solo lvling is not as painful when u can focus pull and pbaoe multiple mobs at the same time. Even with mana regen, downtime is downtime.
