The spirit master pet has a feature that allows it to have a chance to intercept melee attacks. Currently the pets will intercept arrow attacks. This is incorrect. Per 1.62 release notes this feature is intended for melee attacks not ranged.
1. Find a spirit master with a pet up
2. Shoot at spirit master with arrows
3. Pet will intercept arrows like a melee attack
Per release notes 1.62, the intercept feature for Spirit master pets is intended for melee only, not ranged combat.

"If a melee class enemy is attacking you, keep your pet nearby for the intercepts. If no melee enemies use the pet to attack a ranged target to keep the enemy interrupted."

Spiritmaster pets, starting with the spirit soldier, now have a chance to take the melee attack for their controller. The chance increases up to the spirit champion. The caster must be standing close to the pet for this ability to be used.
