Just my opinion:

Hunters should always spec as hybrids. You won't out-fight a split or melee spec Ranger. You won't out-shoot a Scout (or a high bow spec Ranger for that matter--UNICORNS AND RAINBOWS). You must use every tool availible to you to win. That means speccing BC. That means balancing your bow/spear for maximum efficiency.

I chose 45 bow because it gives me Sure Shot (under-rated), Rapid Fire II (/shrug), and most importantly Volley III. Volley III gives you five total shots with one Volley. This is the 'sweet spot.' Five shots will kill most assassins, casters, and low RR Rangers/Scouts (before they start stocking up on PD/Toughness). It will also beat the crap out of tanks.

I chose 39 spear for the back-stun. You can go beyond 39 spear, yes, but the styles aren't very compelling and the difference in weapon skill between 44/50+15 spear and 39+15 spear is tiny. This is just imo! I love me some melee Hunters but I just don't think it's the most efficient use of the class.

I chose 32 BC for free self-buffs, speed shout, and our red-headed-step-child of a pet. Now that the staff have fixed our pet's final level it interrupts with much more frequency. It is still unreliable, does hardly any damage, and is a pain in the ass to manage in a fight--but I love it all the same. If I am unfortunate enough to get Volleyed by a sneaky Scout I will insta-summon my wolf and it will soak up a lot of the damage. I am certain this has ****** off Fortyseven to no end. ;) The pet can also save you from the slam/volley combo Scouts like to use if you manage to summon it before they stun. Basically I think our Wolf was created solely to ****** off Scouts and maybe the odd Druid.
