Best Race for Savage?

What is the best race to choose for a savage? I have seen Trolls, Norse, and Kobold. Is hand to hand purely strength based or str/dex? What kind of quick would a Troll have at 50 with gear and buffs, and what kind of str would the other races have? Thanks.

hand to hand dmg is str/dex
=> but still troll does the most dmg due to most strengh => troll's disadvantage: hard to see a lurikeen infront of u ^^ kobold and valkyn have low strengh more dex, norse bit more strengh than kobold & valkyn but less dex... I guess its nearly the same if u sum it up dwarf is the worst class to take for a savage... valkyn has most style as savages due to the roleplay background ^^ But if u take a look at the herald: most svges are kobolds or trolls |

Hand to hand is str/dex based.
If you compare race's base stats, you get:
You see that troll is a bit higher, while all others but the dwarf have the same. Now if you compare evade chances, you get:
You see that troll has a disadvantage there. Ultimately, the choice is more about kobold and troll I think. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

I wouldnt go by dmg, 10 dmg more or less is not a big deal. But beeing small and less visible are clear advantages which are priceless ...
Go for Kobold thats my advice:) Greetz Nes Inactive

valkyn ! same dmg and evade as kobold , but better resists , faster atack speed. Well it looks ugly
The lower hp dont interest in grp rvr , and svg isnt a good solo class anyway. |

True.
Slighly at start, no difference at the end.
Indeed. I just hate to see the way it's running, it looks like a constipated monkey.
Good point. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

Thanks for the replies, especially with numbers. So even though Troll is 7 pts ahead, by the end of the game this isn't going to be a big deal as instead of 60 vs 67 it'll be more like ~350ish vs ~357ish with buffs and gear, right?
Also, if I choose kobold how should I dump starting points? 10 str and 10 dex for sure. Is 10 quick going to be helpful or unnecessary once gear and buffs are accounted for? Doesn't the self haste buff cap swing speed anyways? If quick isn't necessary maybe 5 more dex as this will help both dmg and evade, or go for 10 con? Also, just want to double check, hand to hand is the best spec for savage right? Is there any real reason to choose the other lines? Thanks! |

All the races will have pretty much the same weaponskill in the end. Troll slightly higher and dwarf slightly lower.
If you will always group with an aug healer any race will pretty much cap swing speed with the slowest weapons. So if youre always going to group with an aug healer you will get the best damage with a troll. The problem imo with trolls is that their size makes it harder to see and to position your self correctly for posi styles. Altough this is arguable for some it's an issue imo and for this I prefer a small sized female norseman for a savage, simply for the extra con over kobolds and valkyns and the extra weaponskill over dwarfs. So my ranking would be like this: 1: Troll/Norseman 2. Kobold 3. Valkyn/Dwarf And I prefer 10str/10dex/10con starting points altough 10str/15dex is ok too. (10str/10dex/10qui is acceptable if youre a troll/dwarf/norse and will play duo/groups without an aug healer.) In the end theres not a huge difference. Play whatever you thinks looks cool^^ Kobolds are small and cool and are often mistaken for shamans in groups My 2 copper. Last edited by hopscotsch on Jul 27, 2009 19:18, edited 1 time in total.

If your run with a staff while not attacking, you can mislead your enemies and let your Runemaster go on a killing spree. if doin it is wrong, i dont wanna be right

Right.
Not quite, you'll still need aug healer's celerity to cap swing speed, and you may not cap it anyway if you don't have enough points in savagery. That depends on the spec you're aiming at, although it would be a shame (imho) to put less than 49 in savagery.
Tough call. You could indeed boost your primary stats to increase dmg/evade, but one could argue that tertiary stats wont increase as fast as the others and therefore need more points than the primary. Actually, you'll probably respec those stats when you'll work on your template, so it's not that important.
You won't get triple/quad hits with other weapons, neither thrust damage. Those I believe are the best reasons to use H2H over any other weapon spec. Of course, it's always a matter of taste, and ultimately this is your toon. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

Robe?!?!? Mids wear pants, like men. When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.

It's surprising to me that even with quickness templated and buffed that the self haste buff won't cap swing speed, does it come close? What about those buff potions, are they haste or celerity, can't remember? And are there any items with celerity charges? I'd love to do lots of 8man RvR with good setup and in that case probably won't be a huge deal b/c will definitely have the aug healer, but I'm not sure how easy it will be to get in on that, and I foresee a good amount of time doing shaman/skald/savage trio with friends.
