it seems we are running 1.7 daoc. so i figured this might be relevant.

Hunter Report - 7/16/2004

Spec Line Issues

1. Composite Bow

1.a. Bow range for Midgard bows is too short. The original justification for Hunters having the shortest range was that Hunters could spec to 50 spear and every other archer/assassin would be limited to 25 spec. That is no longer true, and there is no benefit to the Hunter for this penalty.

^^^any one know about this???

1.b. Bow selection for Midgard is a sub-set of Albion/Hibernia. See above. I'm not saying Midgard should be identical, just that Hunters don't get as much as the other 2 archers because our previous unique benefits have been taken away and given for free to the other archers

2. Beastcraft

2.a. Very little reason to spec beyond 32-35 Beastcraft. Because the self buffs in Beastcraft are duration based, and lower in value, very few Hunters spec beyond the last insta-pet. This makes almost 1/3rd of the entire BC spell line unused.

^^^^ doubt we can do much here. we can deal.

3. Stealth

3.a. Serious lack of functionality for archers. Assassins not only have the best stealther detection abilities, but superior melee capabilities, making them the de facto rulers of the stealth sub-game. Minstrels, despite being the most group-friendly class in Albion, also have climb walls. Archers have the least reason to spec stealth because they can neither outfight assassins, nor climb walls.

^^^^well, i guess stealthers supposed to dominate the stealth game? but what are archers? hybrids?? just want to know what the assumed role is.

Style Issues

1. Spear styles have too many penalties to defense

1.a. As a whole, Hunter melee is significantly weaker than both Ranger/Scout, and other rogues. This is because Hunters do not have any auxillary skills to supplement their melee (poisons, dual wield, shield, shouts, etc.). In addition, all the practical useable styles have significant defensive penalties. This makes the Hunter's melee weakest out of all non-tank classes in the game.

^^^major agree, is there any way to take away the defense penalties?

Realm Ability Issues

New Issues


1.a. In any PK game, damage is the primary reason one side loses and another wins. Casters easily outpace archers in the game by a factor of 2-3, making them the only practical ranged RvR class. A Hunter's 500 range bonus is neglible compared to that kind of damage comparison, making archers inefficient and undesireable in keep sieges.

see 1? how much harder does say a sm DD or thane (probably better comparison) DD , than the last crit shot?? assume 50 spec in respective lines, composite or not, averages here, spec differences change every thing.


well all that being said, i'm still gonna roll a hunter. ill just hunt with other hunters. but that last question is what i'm curious about. ty, yall. hope i didn't start a flame post.

1.a. This is a classic problem due to Mythic's mishandling of the Hunter class. The staff can do nothing since it would require a custom change. Interesting bit of DAoC history: Hunters could spec parry in the BETA.

2.a. Yep, another classic problem with the Hunter class that wasn't fixed until much later.

3.a. This doesn't really apply to Uthgard due to NF RAs. If we go back to OF RAs/1.65 patch you will have this problem.

Styles

1.a I don't think defensive penalties are the real problem with Hunter melee on Uthgard. Especially since most Hunters will just spam Engage/Wounding Thrust.

New Issues

1.a Any serious DD caster will out-damage an archer in most situations. I don't think this issue is relevant since the classes are built for different jobs.

In beta hunters had Chain armor as well. At least here hunters can charm decent pets.

Also hunter should be on a better weaponskill table than ranger/scout.

They are.

For Scouts and Rangers it is 1.8

For Hunters it is 1.9
