The 25% make sense

With 1 in CD/DW/LA

You get:

CD/DW
100% MH + 25% OH (based on the 25% chance to hit) = 125% damage

LA (100% hitchance but basedamage reduction)
62,5% MH + 62,5% OH = 125% damage

LA decreases also main hand dmg?

can i be effective just not speccing and cd at all? honestly the whole skill is just confusing me :P

im a bit laggy and havent had much luck with side positionals, i do much better with evade stuns.

You should spec cd too because i like the cd evade chain better (haste debuff ftw, after diamondback of course!)

As I said high cd is the best dps for Ranger, you dont have poisons or really high growthrates styles (above 1.0).

And you should know that you will use the pierce detaunt a lot vs dual wielders because of evade3... if you want to rely on your evade stun.

my basic question about the skill remains unanswered i think. how does the CD skill itself affect my damage for either weapon or chance to hit with either weapon? if i spec high in cd, do i need high in pierce?

You need composite 50/51 piercing for base damage. 0,68% chance pro point in CD and 0,5% each lvl.

Damage will suck with 18 or lower with cd styles.

ok so taking into account the advice i've heard here...

31 path (50 factor AF)
36 stealth (50 skill with bonuses)
36 bow (rapidfire, 50 skill with bonuses)
29 cd (side stun chain)
37 pierce (51 skill with bonuses)

this is a more effective rr4 spec?

Depends. If you want to be a melee ranger, your cd should be higher.

Yep, it really all depends on what type of ranger you want to play. Your spec looks like a hybrid, which is fine if you find that you will melee/shoot about the same.

If you want to be much more melee, then drop the bow down and boost up melee. If you want more bow, then drop CD down and just rely on the Diamondback lvl 25 pierce stun off evade and put the points into bow/pathfinding.

There isn't a magic spec for a ranger, as it really depends on the way you play your ranger. Since I'm mostly bow with "some" melee, my spec will be very different from yours. I'm going for:

48 Path
37 Stealth
40 Bow
8 Celtic Duel
25 Pierce

Is it optimal? I dunno, but it's optimal for my playstyle. Asking people what's an optimal spec really depends on how you play your ranger.

And why do you pick 40 bow instead of some more spec in cd?^^

Simply because I wanted 48pathfinding for the last dex/quick buffs, I wanted Stealth to be near 39 so with items and a few RR I can be 50 stealth, and I wanted the 25 pierce Diamondback stun...which allowed me to put 40 into Bow. The 8 in CD are just leftover points in my spec.

Since I plan on mostly shooting and moving, it's the right spec for me.

More damage than 39 Bow.

Not sure about this server, but at one time you would get Penetrating Arrow 2.

Bow was just "how much can I put into it" if I don't sacrafice Pathfinding, Stealth and 25 in Pierce.
