Well, a Dwarf Hunter will give you lots of street cred (almost as much as a Frostalf) 8)

But on a practical level, Kobold or Valkyn are the best choices stat/resist wise.

I like Kobi because of the extra dex myself. On a personal note...go sword. The one and only good thing about spear is the back stun. Other than that you will miss or be evaded a good 60-70% of the time in melee vs assassin classes. I was spear for like 9 months and went sword. My damage is crappy but I do land most of my shots now. Overall, you will NEVER EVER win in melee combat vs any assassin class. Your only hope is to have camo up and volley them or crit shot them and hope you get them down to 1/3 hp before they reach you. If not....your dead. Also, bring pots/charges for everything. Str, dex, str/con, haste, hp pots. Maybe sometime soon Uth staff will have our pets fixed so we will not be the laughing stock of the entire server. For now you might as well train everything in MOS and join a stealther crew or group and run around finding stealther to uncover. Thats what I do and if i didnt I would probably never get any rp.

I've been sword spec for a few weeks now.

To be honest there isn't much of a difference. Spear is probably slightly better, but that's like saying a 2002 Kia is slightly better than a 2002 Daewoo. Sword has the evade stun, and it is >HIlarious< if you manage to land it, but it gets purged 90% of the time anyway. :/

Sword does allow you to use 1hand weapons, which could open up some interesting tactics...

On topic of Dwarf or Kobold.

I would go for the Kobold, youl have 20 extra dex, which adds dmg stat for both melee (spear) and bow. It also helps your evade chance, but only by a little. The Dwarf does get like 30 extra con, but that is only like 100 more HP, since i think there HP is 3.6 hp per con. So you have to decide if that is worth it or not.

No. And the highest level we can charm is 41 if I'm not mistaken.

IDK about sword at lvl 50 here but lower lvls it was sad damage. I have no complaints with spear at lvl 50.
Here I use 39 spear, back stun with SBs ready to PA its MOS4 fun.

On live servers sword spec seemed to do more damage then it does here and spear missed more then here. (so it seems to me) I tried quite a few specs on live and ended up using 39 sword.
I forget what I used after the archery "love" because I basically gave up on my hunter after new archery came in.

Like Seya and others said you want rather high bow its where most of your damage will come from, your pet is a joke. You might concider very low BC at lvl 50 and use charges to buff. Also If you keep camo up NS and infy can't see you easy if your compisite stealth is close to 50.
Hunters here end up hunting NS and Infys.

Minita

PS. Kobbie>Dorf for hunter

PPS. I don't know why anyone would use a dorf for any class other then it being a small target IE: healer Frosty>Dorf or maybe a thane farmbot could take a few more hits. /shrug sure they look like mini member of ZZtop but /doh is it just me or does any of this bable make any sense?

Hunter could do a little better damage with spear, if the growthrates on Uthgard were not lower than they should be apparently.

Source is every growthrate database you find on the web. Didnt find one that differs from these numbers, yet.

I'm going to bump this old thread with a question to you hunters.

if you had a choice between 45 bow 39 weapon or 40 bow 44 weapon which would you choose and why?

35 Bow and 44 weapon with 40 BC. This is an RR7 spec.

For lower RRs, sacrifice a couple ranks in bow or spear (I suggest spear) to keep your stealth at an appropriate level.

You take 35 Bow for Rapid Fire. This is the last truly useful bow ability in the bow spec line. Speccing above 35 bow nets you a lot of useless or redundant abilities.

You (eventually) take 44 spear for the second style in the back-stun chain. This is about as good as Hunter melee gets (the level 50 style isn't worth the points imo).

You take 40 BC because the benefit of more dex/qui is better than what you would get with a few more ranks in bow or spear.

Another thing to keep in mind: even if you are spear spec, if you have some extra points you should spec 6 in Sword. Why? Because 6 Sword gets you Draw-Out, an any-timer with a high bonus to hit. Why do you want a Sword style if you are spear spec?

Because Shadowblades can't poison spears. Keep a poisoned sword in your main-hand for some extra utility. I would suggest snare poison but disease is good too.
