I was wondering, as a Briton merc, how much damage I would be giving up to a H/O merc. I know that I am losing 30 strength, but I don't really have an idea how much damage that might equate to at level 50 with buffs.

I dislike the models for the Half-Ogre and Highlander races, is why I chose Briton, but if I am gimping myself in any substantial capacity I will make as H/O anyways.

In my honest opinion! it dosent realy effect the damage that much its all about how you play. Go with what suits you best mate!
Seriously you will be the one leveling and spending the time with the char so play what you want to play!
The best mercs i know are briton and its because of there playstyle not dmg calculators. :)

thrust briton merc would probably be a nice choice if you were SET on going briton.

The only toon I tested % dmg change per stat point was on the hybrid table. Needed almost 5 points to weapon stat to equal 1% more damage (about). So for a merc I would guess its between 3 and 4 points of str to a %. 30 str might be 10% more damage at most, prolly a little less than that. your mileage may vary and if 10% seems like an alarming amount maybe you should try testing it out.

You'll lose 20 quick though too which will drop your DPS slightly as a HO.

personally I would make a HO because I see 30 str as free aug str 4 almost.

On this server you strait up have to go highest STR race imho or you will regret it later. I know sooo many celt bms who wished they went firbolg (but BM dmg sucks maybe thats why). Go female HO so you don't have a hunch lol. If you honestly care about damage then HO will make a difference that is notable, probably 20-30 dmg per hit on average.

or if you're completely set on NOT going HO then go Briton(or highlander) Thrust, (neutral dmg against hib chain+ extra dmg against mids.)

EDIT: make sure you AT (auto-train) thrust though for some extra points in the long-run.

I find it very hard to believe that 20 extra points of strength would result in 20-30 points of damage per hit, esp on a merc who uses fast or medium speed weapons.

Also if you get good str buffs you should break 300 str anyways and get diminishing returns. Unless it doesn't work like that here, I know it did back in the day on live.

If you do notice that much of a difference in damage per hit, it would probably have to do with half ogres, firbolg and trolls having lower qui. Lower quickness = lower dps, but you might get more per hit because styles add dps, so slower swing means more + dmg per swing.

Yeah I did mean that 20-30 would include str bonus and the lower quickness. TBH quickness helps DPS but isn't incredibly important because with red haste always on you will hit nearly as fast as britons. Also burst dmg > speed imo. I notice how much more dmg rare or KT's HOs hit me with then briton mercs like jump when they use their anytimers.
