Hi guys,
New player here. I had some quick questions about the VW situation on the shard. My brother and I have a couple years under our belt on the live servers, we never played classic. We wanted to give classic a try so we are here. My main questions were: What are the main differences/changes to VW from live? And, how viable is VW both pve/rvr (mostly small group/8v8 rvr)? Do they stand up to other classes? gimped? I love the playstyle of VW. The hybrid caster/melee with some decent survivability always struck me as interesting to play. I do not have a level 50 VW on live, as the reason I am looking to roll one here and kinda clueless as to their viability. ![]() Any suggestions would be GREAT! Also, which class would be a nice combo with VW for leveling and later joining in with the VW in small/8v8 groups later on? Thanks! Deladian |

I also forgot to ask about the upcoming RA changes, how will they good and bad effect VW?

Dont roll a VW. U r screwed with Old RA and u dont find a decent grp which will pick u up for RvR even now

That's what i was afraid of. Any viable alternative? Or should I stick to casters? (I loath pure melees)
Any caster suggestions? I like enchanter and ment for pve and rvr. How viable are those? |

Ench is a good choice imo. Ment has to rely on ench to be effective and with 2-3 active enchs in end rvr i doubt you'll have much fun/groups.
Also theres no spot left in solid hib setups for ments with old ras imo. But might be just my personal preference ![]() Fabienne - Blademaster

Well, which hib classes should my brother and I avoid completely? (due to coming RAs or mechanics on Uth)
We will make our choice from there. Thanks for any input. |

champ/vw/ment
edit: if you roll toons together ment might become a valid choice in a ench ment duo. Also best xp duo and playable in 3-4 caster setups. Ofc there are superior setups but it's not that it's a totally screwed setup ![]() Hibgroups are like: If you run one caster you have to go eld. If you run 2 caster it's eld + ench. If you want more then you can get ment or second ench ( i would prefer, pbae/baod), but warden or another bm might be better. Fabienne - Blademaster

How can you not have a spot left for a second demezzer with Old RAs? That's silly. But MB is known for silly setups so.. ![]() In defense of truth-to-experience.

I'd never pick a chanter with old realm abilities. Moc + pbaoe spam worked fine 8 years ago, nowadays it won't cut it. Debuffs won't be mandatory anymore since divine intervention is basically removed from the game (for example DI2 currently absorbs 5-10 nukes without debuff, depending on resists buffed or not). Baod is nice but bleh, it's just a situational realm ability on a 30 minute timer.
Mentalist is more than just a demezzer, it has very big & fast single heals with mage dex and a decent single mez, along with a nice spec dd nuke ofc. |

BAoD is badass, the debuff is VERY welcome against mids. The pet's a nice extra rupt and bomb petclearance is never a bad thing. Chanter ain't bad at all with Old RAs imo. In defense of truth-to-experience.

If you liked a class, dont give up on them because of possible changes. Yes some will be more difficult, but we dont know exactly how bad some things may get. Those who say that something will be worse, is based on there own play style or guessing. Game play on uthgard, compared to live will always be different, because of some custom differences. Like the lack of buffbot and the play styles of people with OF setting. The major diff i know of the VW is there style line, and the special lifetap that also heals the VW when used. There is no frontal root on classic. But every class compared to live is also missing many style and spell changes, so dont rule your VW out because you dont have some things you may liked. You may like some of the classic styles. I got a lvl 45 VW im playing and enjoy. I know things will change a bit in OF ra setting, but still will have fun.
Give something a try and see if you like it. Many on uthgard may say the like one class, but you may not. So give a class you like to play a chance on a diff setting and see how it goes. |

good bard+single purge+2xgroup purge+warden resists. Ofc it would be nice to have a second demezzer and might be easier to play, but all in all you can build stronger setups without. Ment healing is lol so the only utility you get from mentalist is dmg (if debuffed) and demezz. Not worth a groupspot imo. Fabienne - Blademaster

We ran with menta in our old group, and replaced the class because it simply didn't offer enough utility. The damage is of course nice, but with debuff assist, you get enough dmg from base line nukes. So I'd have to agree, not worth the spot; but not entirely gimped either. But I'd go for a 2nd Enchanter/Eld.

If your menta didn't offer enough utility it was the player's fault, not the class'.

It's more a question of group setup, really
If you play a caster group, I'd always give preference to Ench and Eld and only turn to a menta for the third slot. Eld is mandatory, because you can't play an effective kite strategy without disease (not to mention debuffs, and nearsight), Ench offers heat debuff (which is a must, even with DI removed, because mids run with 50% heat resists), heal pet, pbae, hase debuff and baod. Menta offers a slightly better single dd and demezz - which is nice, but in my book still comes after Eld and Ench. The heal on 28 mentalist specc is really not that great and if one of your main damage dealers has to start healing, well, then you are in big trouble anyway. ![]() |
