Ranger: opinions needed between two final specs

Hi, i'm in need for some feedback coming from people who played a Ranger on Uthgard.
I'm torn between two possibile final spec points assignment. Before write them down, i want to premise that i'm conscious that the value for Stealth is low. That is done willingly and it reflects my style of play and what i want to obtain from my character. The two possible specs are: 1) 39 Piercing 29 Celtic Dual 38 Bow 36 Path Finding 29 Stealth 2) 39 Piercing 26 Celtic Dual 36 Bow 40 Path Finding 29 Stealth My concern comes from the doubt about the two extra buffs i would get passing from 36 to 40 on Path Finding. Are those +17 points on Dex/Qui and those +9 on Str (comparing real life points buffed from buffs of 29/30 with those of 39/40) so vital for the character, that they are worth the sacrifice of 2 points on Bow and 3 on Celtic Dual? Please help me with the impressions you had from your character and not from common belief but, as i said before, leave out the Stealth points, i've no doubts about them ![]() Thanks for all the effort you will put into helping me! ![]() On Uthgard 1.0:

40 path
30stealth 39weapon 35bow 26 celtic dual . . .imo yes having 40pf makes a difference, str affecting blades and pierce (str\dex at least), and better dex spec for bow damage\speed\melee. This leaves you with 39weapon of choice, decent cd for side stun, 35bow for rf\volley (ive never gone over 35 unless sniper\bow spec). I have 30stealth here simply because the leftover points with autotraining was enough for 1 level, wouldnt make a difference in any other line. |

I would go with either of those 2 specs, however, i would point out that 40 path is very nice since it will give you an additional 14 dex/qui and an additional 7 str. Basically, it helps ur mele and bow dmg output. Also, there is ZERO reason to go with 36 or 38 bow. 35 bow will get you all the same goodies (rapid fire, volley, penetraiting arrow, high end crit, etc..) and at 5L0 you will have an effective 50 bow spec. Specing any higher then 50/51 composite (with +'s) add's almost no extra dmg. You may see a tad more dmg by specing higher then 51, but it will be so minimal that I doubt you even notice it. You would be much better off taking those points to raise up your path or cd to help you out overall.
If I had to choose between the two I would take option 2, but I would adjust that slightly. My spec, going off what you proposed woudl be: 39 pierce 40 path 35 bow 30 stealth 26 cd Zacknafein Do'Urden- lvl 50 Ranger- 10L1
Jarlaxle Baerne- lvl 50 Blademaster- 5L8 Marshal Mathers- lvl 50 Bard- 3L8 Neighborhoodfriendl AlchemistbotSuperwarden- lvl 36 Warden- 2L2 Barrabus TheGray- lvl 6 Nightshade- 1L0 Zacknamid SorryaboutkillinguonHib- lvl 50 Hunter- 8L1 Cadderrly Bonaduce- lvl 50 Friar- 4L2 |

Why do you guys recommend 30 stealth with a realmrank below rr5? Everyhing below 49 composite stealth with hybrid or bow spec is crap. Assassins will see you very easy without camouflage.
Try 40 path, 35 bow, 35 stealth, 19 CD, 39 Piercing (or only 34 piercing and higher cd if you dont want to use the lvl39 side follow up). Now I have to say that your melee damage wont be that good (especially vs sb or inf) and you will probably lose in a pure melee fight vs viper noobs without actives (purge and ip) up. So bow play is a must have with that spec. |

I based my comments on the comment he made: Before write them down, i want to premise that i'm conscious that the value for Stealth is low. That is done willingly and it reflects my style of play and what i want to obtain from my character.
I agree that having a 50 composite spec is key, but he said he understood the dangers and that was his style of play. Most people dont like alot of the things I do on my ranger, but it works for me, so I'm not going to tell him he needs to make a char that he doesnt like. So, Yes Badzt, you would prefer to spec stealth up to 50 (w/ +'s), however, if you are dead set against it then go with one of the above specs that we mentioned earlier. Also, you would be wise to listen to Ronia about ranger spec. I played ranger on live for 2 + years and when I came here he helped me alot. |

When he plays in OG or HW it will be possible with 30 stealth but I wont set a feet into Emain or DF (when there is much stealth war action ongoing) with 30 base stealth below at least rr7. I had 33 stealth with low realmrank and I wouldnt do it ever again. Not before old realm abilities are introduced (then infs will see us easy enough without camoflage anyway)
For the purpose of being seen often I can recommend Zacknas last posted spec ![]() |

I tried alot of differant stealth specs and i found out that 48 composite stealth spec is the best with mos3 or higher. Never been PA´d when im in stealth so far with that spec.

First of all, thanks to everybody for your support
![]() I know that low stealth is something strange for most people, but that's because they tend to copy each other in hope of the "right choice" (no offence for anybody ![]() Would a Hero or a Warden, be happy for being granted the ability of going stealth, even only with a value of 10? I think so. Many years ago i had a minstrel that had only 7 in stealth, and that was more than enough to prey other players. Obviously not the shades. I don't need to build a ranger that behaves like a shade, i don't have PA. As long as i will spot shades with mos, being able to be not surprised, i will be happy. I want to hit decently when i fight and not to be able to make good jokes to people (arrive invisible at one's back and then scream "BUH!"). 29 + bonus is far enough sufficient for sneaking around non-stealthers. Thanks to your opinions, i have understood it's useless to put 36 in bow if i need points elsewhere, i can put directly 35 ![]() I think i will go to test on the ista50 server and see the damage difference beetween level 29/30 buffs and the 39/40 ones. I have created a table with the updated hib styles for piercing and celtic dual showing also the follow up styles, the value of the effects and the corrected grow rates (posted down, hope you will find it useful). I must say that i'm tempted to make my ranger also: 44 Piercing 39 Celtic Dual 19 Bow 36 Path Finding 29 Stealth So to have the evade follow up style in piercing and the anytime follow up in celtic dual. This to be sure to swing one high level damage style every two. But it is just an idea, 19 bow is very low ![]() I will keep bow to 19 at 50 and see what it means in "real" life ![]() Any other impression is welcome! ![]() Badtzu. With such a big attachment, i destroyed the framing of the thread
![]() I'll remove the attachment and post the table as a link ![]() ![]() Ops, i've seen that i made an error. High level bleeding styles do last for 40 seconds, not 20. If somebody is interested, i can repost it corrected ![]() Last edited by Badtzmaru on May 31, 2011 17:31, edited 1 time in total.

Hi everybody, my pondering about how my ranger will be at level 50 is proceeding.
I've understood that on a no buffbot server, self buffing is far more important than on the days where Daoc was: no buff bot = soloing just for taking pictures ![]() So i've accepted the idea of bringing PF to 40. I've also decided that i do want the side chain styles from CD, because the second style as a big grow rate and a bleeding of 15 points per tick (and it lasts 40 seconds). According to this, the final spec could be like this one: 1) 39 Piercing 29/30 Celtic Dual 33 Bow 40 Path Finding 29/30 Stealth But i was also asking myself, that since with the just wrote final spec the next armour buff is just two steps away, if it wasn't a good idea to take the final armour buff (lev 42). In that case, my final spec could be: 2) 39 Piercing 29 Celtic Dual 31 Bow 42 Path Finding 29 Stealth What do you think, better 33 bow and the second last AF buff, or would it be better to gain last AF buff and bring bow only to 31? Keep in mind that for me bow must simply do some good damage and that the main aspect of my character must be the hand to hand ability. After all, 31 + 11 + RL is always over 40, so damge should be decent be, right? Impressions welcome ![]() On Uthgard 1.0:

First one but lower Piercing to get 35 Bow.
![]() [3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt [3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck

I have to add some stuff:
Melee ranger: 12-13 bow is ok... But for hybrid spec go either for 27 or 35 bow. I dont think that 36 path would be worth it. The yellow shout is worth it for getting away from chargers on a close range. I would pick 31 pf (luris) or 40 pf (celts). |

Hate us Elf Rangers huh? ![]() [3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
