WTF Classes ??

I figure let me roll something that will be group useful.

Do not really want to roll a caster or healer. Was thinking Paladin, Mincer. Some damage ton of utility. Don't just want to run up to something and style style style ....

Read around a little and this is what I am hearing.

"No one want's to group a mincer. "
"Too hard to play"
etc....

Not worried about the learning curve played leveled a Minc to 50 in live but did not RvR with him.

Heard this about Paly's from someone:

"Don't play paladin or reaver if you plan on rvring, old realm abilities will make those two classes worthless (no determination on tanks = fail). Friar is gimp in groups but okay solo. Wizards are just worthless since bolts are bugged. Armsman sucks atm but will replace paladin as deftank when old realm abilities come. Any other class is a good choice."

What RA's will make the paladin obsolete ?

Also this is a joke right ?

"Do you want to be useful to groups? really, really useful? play a bow-focused scout. Play a sniper scout and get all RA's, stats and item bonus related to archery. Archery is performing very well, so your sniper archer will be very valued on groups."

Sorry just seems like some things are different here then on live. Don't want to waste too much time on a gimpy class.

You seem to be new, roll a merc. Best chances to get a grp, nice to play as well. Pala is one slot in grp, and usually filled with a well known one. Mincer is not that good in grps, clerics you dont want to play. sorc, theu, same as pala. regards

1) Dont roll a minstrel. Uthgard already has too many.
If you do roll one, your rvr game will consist primarily of:
- get gaurd mission,
- charm pet,
- climb into keep and kill 5 archers,
- suicide on melee guards,
- repeat ad absurdum...

2) Don't plan your classes around Old RAs.
people who keep talkign old ras are dreaming. they have been "comming soon" for years now. and frankly they would be terrible for the server. So I really hope they never come. why undo one of the best realm balance moves the game ever had?

3) If you really want buttons to push, you will be let down by playing a pally. twisting becomes near automatic after a while, and after that its the same old stick and style. If you change your twist on the fly based on the situation it is a little more fun, but its still near mindless.

4) imo if you want to do more than stick and style. play a hybrid spec tank.
- shield+polearm armsman. you will never get a group. but you will have a ton of utility if you can buld yourself into one. even moreso after RR5 with snapshot.
- hybrid pally. your dmg will still suck, but its ok. you will have a tough time keeping up with all the buttons you have to press. but thats what makes it fun. pallies get group reguarly. and if you play well you will continue to get groups. dotn bother speccing DET until you can get det 4. purge 1 is often enough on uthgard because rvr action is so slow.
- shield merc. slam, manually swap out lefthander to DW, dual weild style. still kind of mindless. but you will get groups a lot. downside here is that uthgard already has seven million mercs. do we really need another?

5) the scout comment was clearly a joke from someone. but it is actually ill aimed. A scout if properly specced can be very usefull in groups. but the flaw comes down to realm rank requried to be decent. if specced say 42 shield 44 thrust, 40+ longbow, they get:
-slam
-long range dps
-anytiem snare chain
-decent melee dps.
then they need det and purge for cc
also need high PD to survive tank trains.

O.k. going to shelf the Minc till I get a feel for the server. Looks like I will level up a Paly with intents of doing a hybrid spec.

I just want to clear out this myth once and for all.

Old RAs has not been "comming soon" for years.

Old RAs was soon to come for a period of time where Nayru thought he was close to being done.

This state changed when Nayru found out he had to start over due to mistake in the way he was building old RAs.

Old RAs is not "soon to come" as it is and has not been for quite some time.

Arms or Merc is best for rvr for albion imho based on my experence as well.I must have missed the one on the scout but scout = FAIL. If you like range melee stealth attack roll a ranger they are OP .

I really can't understand why Mincers are so hated in normal grps.

Speed, rupt, Instastun, Mezz, Demezz, mighty pet (which can demezz/rupt/special abilities too), SoS, DDs, and permarupt with FLutemezz.

That doesn't sound like no utility to me..



A Scout, if well played, can be a hell of a grpchar. Purge3, later maybe Det+PD.
You can stand far back and guard/slam/snare to protect your healers and you can rupt from the same position with your bow (not that bad dmg and 2200 range!!)
As a bonus you can get some enemy Stealthers ;P

Paladin and Merc are probably the best classes tor oll (next to Theurg).
I for myself would take a splitspec cabbalist with me. Nearsight and Disease are just too powerful to miss! But nearly noone takes them (correct me if I'm wrong)

Minstrels arent hated for groups. but given the uthgard dynamic there is no reason for a minstrel to group.

speed+climb walls+pet = faster and more reliable rps doing guard missions than any group can offer.
then because of that, minstrels are about as popular as mercs, so there are a zillion of them.

so lets say you make a new minstrel. you cap out thid like everyone else. you are now a rr4 asking for a group where the average minstrel is significantly higher rr from soloing guard missions. even if you wanted to group, a group can pick a higher rr minstrel and get the job done better. and most groups only run 1 minstrel.

you could make the same arguement for mercs, but groups will happily run 3 mercs.

personally, in uthgards det+stoi+charge dominated rvr. id rather run 2 minstrels than a sorc+minst. but that is not the norm.

any class can do guard missions. personal missions are kill 5 gaurds of one of the two enemy realms (its random as to which realm you get). reward is 1250 RPs and iir about 0.5 to 0.75 bubbles of exp as well (not sure if they removed that bonus or not).

HOWEVER...
1) keeps have doors
2) Outside a keep there are only 2 melee gaurds and one hastener.
3) Haster cons grey at hib keeps (green or blue for mid keeps)
4) Mellee gaurds take forever to kill compared to archer gaurds.

so your options are pretty slim if you dont have climb walls.

A) you can bring a ram and waste a ton of time openign the doors, and still have to kill several melee guards before you can move in to get to the archers.

B) or you can kill the 2-3 in frotn of one keep, then run to annother to finish task.

C) or if you are a low dps class you can take so long killing the mellee gaurds that they respawn by the time you are done killing the second one.

Or you can just pick a class with climb walls and laugh at everyone else who has to deal with doors and melee gaurds. climb in, quickly kill a few archers, then cide on the melee gaurds to get a new task.

There's simply no mincer good enough to play in a group.

If you dont get grp you have to run your one grp. Just make ./who yourlevel and gather some people. You always find some buddys for some exp.
Mincer are eerywhere, was pretty supprised. Its pretty cool class and I guess the most people dont play the mincer for the missions.
There not enough good mincers ? Woot? Its not that difficult for being a nightmare to everybody that cast,

I forgot! Albion needs more smite clerics!
Hope GMs are fine with what they have stated, that they are fine with just 80 people (300ppl was Trishin Statement long time ago) playing the game under their vision.
Its important to leave this server running doesn't matter how low the numbers will be. The other servers can fail but Uthgard still will be there, thats Uthgards only chance.

Edit 19/09/21: Well Uthgards chance has come.
