Debating wether or not to use a fast or slow spear on my hero and was wondering if anyone has any guidance. Planning to be a def tank so was thinking fast would be better for snare peels?

Fast pros : quicker recovery, more weapon proc chances, more chances to hit block / parry / miss not penalized as much, faster peels, better chance to get reactive styles off.

Slow pros : Frontload DPS less time for enemy to react and heal, less chances to be blocked / parried........ ????

Kinda leaning toward checking out a 4. Something spear with max quick, what you guys think? MP weapons so expensive can only afford one for now HALP!

It's a good question, and I wait for the answer too.

In best case, you have 2 types of speed, but as def tank, honestly the speed doesn't really influence my game. In fact, as I switch spear to snare and then re-switch to shield in the same second, I don't really feel the difference. But well, it's my point of view ;)

Fast pros :more weapon proc chances,

wrong :)
swing speed influences proc chance so with slower weapon you will have a higher chance of proc

I've asked many people that question and they all said proc rate is set on uthgard, and there's no variation with different speed weapons.

Maybe it's like that on Live?

well idk what people u asked, u ever used different speed weapons? u will feel it after less than 5 min fighting the difference.
and on live the proc rate is also depending on the swingspeed

same issue as every day DPS = DPS (same goes for procs)

Back to Topic:

Just have a fast and a slow Spear in your Inventory - When you wanna snare take the fast, when you wanna do dmg take the slow!

Problem solved. :)

Really there is no reason to use a slow weaponother than for frontloaded dps on the very first swing.

1) style dmg is constant per time. slower or faster weapon matters not. unstyled dmg for any given quickness and haste is the same way. you jsut split it into bigger chunks by usign a slower weapon. but if your target takes multiple hits, in theory its going to take you the same amount of time to kill them regardless of weapon speed.

2) faster weapon = harder for enemy to land reactionary styles, easier for you to land reactionary styles.

3) faster weapon = less "overkill" dmg if you only had to do 10% more dmg to kill someone, waiting 5 seconds to hit them for another 30% is a waste of time and effectively lost dmg. ergo vs multiple targets, a faster weapon will do more usefull dmg over the course of time as there is less lost dmg in overkill.

4) faster weapon = more dmg vs pbt.

------------
some benefits of slow 2hers:
A) big frontloaded dmg on first hit (unless that gets eaten to bt)
B) easier to swap to shield between swings for 1v1 fights (although i see zero people do this on uthgard, aparently only players on live do this).
C) higher max dmg hits to stroke your epeen.
