So, its been over 6 years since ive played DAoC, and 7 years since I leveled my old Highlander Merc to rr10L6 and stopped. My last years were pretty much goofing off with heretic to rr9L8.

Here is my dilemma, I want to start a merc again as I absolutely loved it. But since HO's are available, it seems like they will be priority for damage (as they were on live, as many mercs re-rolled). I personally hate HO's, i loved my Highlander. I am willing to go Saracen as they were pretty cool.

As far as viability, would someone deny a highlander slash over a saracen thrust? Or is it really the player.

On one hand, i want my Highlander back... on the other I am willing to go Saracen if need be.

And please dont give me the play what you like gig, as i know the min/maxers would have a say in that theory. =)

You'll be fine getting groups with either.

i highly recommend to Autotrain complete (lvling with crush is best anyway cause low cost anytimer and 6sec stun followup)


if you dream of your highlander guy/girl than do it ! cant understand why people do saracen mercs, faster hitting or better blocking/parrying ?

i play a splitspec ogre, 50dw 42shield 30/30 slash/thrust (only possible with Autotrain)

damage kicks ass, if you know what armor is resistant against what damage type

Highlander ve 5% Cold Race Resi, which is pretty good, since your biggest problem will be cold nuker from mid and hib side, so you can go with Highlander. Saracen mercs are pretty bad since they ve too less str and you should go tri spec 2weapons slam anyway, so saracen will suck.

I disagree. The overall difference between a Saracen and Highlander race will be minimal. If you are a good player you will have good results with either race. I myself prefer highlander but I think you are overstating the differences in saying "saracen will suck".

thank you very much for your replies! im glad i can keep my highlander and people wont care here, there are a lot of min/maxers in the private server world for all games, so i was hoping it wouldnt be the case here. And i will look for you online hate/pyro for that guild invite, im looking for a good group of people! =)
