Ironically thanes are actually great group characters........its just that people often don't know how to play them well. Thane in group rvr is a defensive character.......their role is to peel tanks with shield slam and snare them, they peel pets and if rooted they assist nuke........as long as they use their ae hammers appropriately (to peel theurg pets off healers and not to break mez)....and work in a group role they are awesome group characters. Just have a bad rap.

in paper daoc this might be true, in real rvr a warrior is the better def tank.

Go Frostalf. ;)
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt
[3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck
lordgriffon wrote:Oh by the way... ever seen a group of 8 smite clerics? Or play against a group like that? I have. Absolute devastation. The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

honestly in "real rvr", if it is between a thane and a warrior.......i'll take the better player......both characters can be very useful in rvr and if it was between a great player playing a thane and using it to its full potential or a medicore player playing a warrior, there is no question......you take the thane.....honestly, i believe there are many situations where the thane is better to have than the warrior (even if they are equally skilled players)........again, I think it is more that there aren't many good players that play a thane.....but thats my opinion.

Original question:

I would make a norse or frost for faster shield slams....norse for better melee dps, frost for added spell dps/power

a thane would need a high rr and spend all points into cc immunity (det 5 and purge 3) to become a useful grp char, still he would lag stoicism. But i have not seen a thane with det 5 so far. All skill for solo rvr, so this is what they get.

Thane is useful...

... but the "skilled" player cannot demezz the thane, too much work...

unbelievable

flame, flame, flame... i did not ment to call thane gimp for grp, we play often enough with a thane in grp. I just call the players who play thane not grp useful. No one skills the necessary RA's but expect to be invited and rule in grp rvr... this is just selfish.
