Hi

I'm considering making a Minstrel, but I've been reading some posts that Albion groups tend to run without Minstrels, and come to think of it I can't remember to have seen anyone call for a Minstrel to join a RvR group. I want a toon that I can play solo well with since my playtime is very unstable, and I would also like to play well in a group at endgame.

I would also like to have a toon where I don't get gimp for not autotraining. In my opinion AT is the single most stupid thing about this game. Where is the logic in neglecting a skill your entire life to make sure you get better at it at the end than those who use it all life?

but my question is will a Minstrel do good as solo RvR and PVE and will it find groups in RvR?

Minstrel is, if you can manage him well, one of the best soloclasses, and my favorite char =)
Well, for grp, I know that there were some guild wich running with a mincer sometimes.

Minstrels have alot of utility. If you gonna start one, DO autotrain! especially if you focus on grp sometimes.

one big thing to notice is minstrel cant pulse charm in the same way as on live (ur pet is ccable)
after using up Purge, SoS, and AM minstrel is gimmicky in 8v8 (in long fights i think there are classes much better)
if you take a minstrel you are trading out a merc, reaver, or cabalist..
a lot of times the other 3 can stay alive and output much more damage

I think it's the otherway around. AT if solo. What does ATing give for groups? And for solo play it gives slightly better melee which is negligible at most.

You're not really answering his question. Not ATing won't gimp your minstrel. I can only figure one spec where it makes a major difference (50 instr, 44 thrust with AT, 43 without).

You're completely taking any stealth out of his build. If he wants to solo too then he'll want the stealth for wall climb (keep task *yawn*) Though I suppose if he wants no stealth then yes it's just the difference in losing that 1 point which unlocks the key snare style that might make him slightly more usefull in group. The easiest way to answer his question is for people to post some possible specs. Personally my AT Minstrel will end up like this: 50 Instruments, 25 Stealth, 37 Slash. But that is more for my personal soloing with the class. For groups I don't have an honest good spec offer. Perhaps that 50 Instrument 44 Thrust 0 Stealth ?

Big problem with minstrels, is that it's a tough class to play well in groups, but those who do manage to become good are an amazing ressource for alb groups.

Lots of interrupts (DD, CC, pet, confusion etc...), okay spike damage (but not good constant damage), demezz (meaning 2 demezzers, really good), extra mezzes avail (can't ever have to many...), speed 6 for the group, SOS (which is very very usefull for alb extend groups but also for push groups).
And compared to a theurg, which also serves as interrupter, minstrel has more suvivability and is not suppressed by red NS.

But to do all the tasks well, takes a very skilled player, and thus most group minstrels end up giving minstrels a bad rep (like when I watched a minstrel in Thid start fighting a berserker instead of interrupting healers).
Albion and having fun
