I've played DAoC a bit here and there, WoW, EQ, all sorts of MMOs. Was wondering which realm or if Albion has any english speaking guilds to help new players? Or if uthgard is good to new players

Which class would you reccomend for more of an RvR setting, but viable for solo/pvm.. I like hard hitting classes, but survivability/utility is a plus

well paladins are always sought for, as every grp needs endu...

reavers are great for solo and grp play + hard hitting

mercs are preferred tanks in alb grps

my favourite is arms(wo)man, but most ppl prefer reaver or merc...with one of the first 3 you can't be wrong...arms is more for ppl that like plate armor + polearms weapons :D

maybe friar is a viable option too, but there's already quite a lot of solo-friars around and rvr-grps don't pick friars very often...

As I think you want to go for a melee class, there arent too many options:

I dont have any lvl 50 yet, so its just was I hear...

- Arms are not very much wanted for rvr (missing det)
- Pala + Merc very much wanted for rvr - Pala a must for all pve action, but not that "hard hitting" class
- Reaver: wanted for pve, like dragon raid or green knight, also perfect duo with paladin; I dont know much about rvr needs for reaver, but i guess he is wanted (maybe a little less than merc)

I play a lil reaver, and even with df gear only, I chain blue, yellow, ora mobs in df - and also tried and succeded in killing occasional red mobs. I do AT flex - using crush atm, so I dont know how damage output will be when flex specced.

Hope this helps

Arms has det. Or do u mean charge ?

In my opinion is Arms a better choice instead of an reaver if they will be played a bit defensive, but offensive as well.
-det+Stoi = more CC-resistent than a reaver.
-Pole makin nice dmg .. not constantly like reaver with 1h but the anytimer (pole) has a nice snare.
-Dashing defence is a very nice RA and helps very much in the backline.
-Soldirs Barricade is a third bof, BUT against EACH dmg not only meleedmg like clericbof

I guess there will pop up more reasons for me when i can play my arms a bit more in grp, but the point is .. so few playing arms and so few want one in grpsetup... and i still prefere playing my pala^^

the reason why reaver is prefered is that he can guard while doing damage.

well i had a level 36 pally on uth, it was good i think. i soloed 3 hib stealther in a row, 2 at once. Just twist and sword n board them slowly to death.. I like being tanky, but i like watching 1/2 their hp justgo splat with one crushing blow. casters are good but from whati udnerstand melee is stronger in classic.

daoc is stone-paper-scissors...there's no "better" or "best"...sure, some classes do not perform as well as others, but in general it's impossible to say "class X is best"....examples:

without RAs a shamy will lose vs a pole-arms, once the pole arms is in melee-range, which is not impossible to achieve...palas, reavers or mercs have a hard time on this, as they don't have a good anytime or backsnare to keep up with the shamy while diseased...

cabalist is very good vs tanks, as he'll just disease them and send his pet on them...if they hit pet, caby turns and nukes them down...if they chase the caba, they'll be killed by the pet..slowly :)...however, cabas lose vs BDs or other casters, that get nearsight of first (eld, rm)...

for every class there's always at least one counter-class...main-tanks die to kite-classes, casters die to nearsights-casters, assassins and speeders (skalds are evil caster-killers), speeders die to main-tanks if they don't kite well...stealthers have a hard time vs main-tanks and some hybrids...

the only "advantage" of tanks is, that they are not so stressful to play...once in melee you "only" have to use styles and maybe 2 or 3 special-skills...as a caster or even pet-caster you'll have to qc-cc, kite, send pet on target, set pet passive, etc. etc. :), debuff etc. etc. :)

always talking about solo play btw...in grps many classes are important, though some (main-cc, buffers, healers, some speed) are vital...
