explode chances are different from live.
#1 on live you would be sucessfull for 5 point OC even with 99-99-98-98, you may needed several tries for sucessfull combine, but never got item loss/explode with that combination. #2 on live the item quality does not affect the combining process. for example, a 95% item has less imbue point space, but could OC'd with 5 points as well. for this reason, bad quality items could be equalized by some points OC. on uthagrd this is complete different: the item quality affects the explode chance. 99% item: 4x99 needed for 1% explode / 100-99-99-99 für 0% explode 100% item: 4x99 needed for 0% explode OC even with only 1-2 points OC on items 98% or lower: high explede chance the 1% chance is real... had several explodes aready, so for expensive 99% parts like chain/plate chests / legs/head you should use 100-99-99-99 cobination to be safe. you should |

The changes you speak of (no exploding item) are from 1.87+. Gems are still lost. Also, the exploit of combining 3, then combining 1 only works because the item is no longer lost.

I think this is the most important part. It was found in an old German Crafting Forum. This ist the most important part: - die itemqualität ist für das überladen / explosions chance unerheblich, egal ob 94% oder MP * - für 0% explode bei +5 reicht eine quersumme von 394 entspricht (99-99-98-98) - Itemquality is irrelevant for the explosion chance - for 0% explode chance @ +5 overcharge you should have a cross sum of 394 (99-99-98-98 gems) But one thing bugs me a bit. There is a Tracker for the issue and then we get this:

A tracker for an issue reported almost 4 years ago and has been reported many times since with most GM's requiring additional proof than has already been provided. I wouldn't count on anything changing sadly.

That's exaclty what i did on many craft items, for a lot of template for BG to end game, with a wide range of quality item. And i NEVER explode a single item. RIP : Ectoplasme
