crafting percentages - pointless?

I realize that these are a chance to make and a chance to gain skill each time something is attempted. These are dependant on your skill compared to the skill required to make it.
But how often are these accurate? After making a Legendary Alchemist and now taking on armorcrafting these seem to be completely pointless. Very rarly do I get to say "wow i did better than i should have". I do realise as human nature is often we recall unfortunate things more easily and vividly than the beneficial things, but its become rediculous. This is just one example of the many times these "chances" do not add up over many combines. Whilst this example is only a small number of combines comparitivly. I need to raise metalwork from 524 to 525 to make the next scale armor peice. So i chose to make a carbide wrought iron jewelry box to gain that one extra point. Chance to make 58% Chance to gain skill 61% Failed to make attempts 11 Made but without skill up 7 Made with skill up 1 Total Attempts 19 Whilst this is probably just bad luck it is more often than not a normal occurance in what seems like most crafts. Dont get me wrong. I do appreciate the massive work done to get uthgard to where it is. I really have no ground to moan about anything as this is an awesome place to play. You got a chance of 58% to make this item. _IF_ you succeed in this, there is a 61% chance of gaining a skill point through it - The chances given there are
use in the calculation using a random number gen Be nice. :)

If you want to raise secondary skills, try to avoid raising them directly.
If you are an Armorcrafter and you need a point in Metalworking for the next thing you want to craft, just craft a low level weapon. Its cheap and fast and almost always gains a Metalworking point. Works with most skills, even Fletching can raise Metalworking if you craft a Staff that needs Metal. |

you can skill metalworking with weaponcrafting (woodworlking too), cltohes or leatherworking with tailoring its cheap its fast its good, because you make lowlvl items that take a few seconds and cost maybe few coper or silver
@gerbald making a lower skill staff to gain metalworking is maybe more expansive than the bow you skill with wc or tailoring int the 1-300 skillrange is faster and cheaper |
