Hello fellow Mids :)

I was recently made aware of this DAoC classic freeshard and I'd like to play DAoC again, I used to play quite a bit (RR9+, LGM crafter) and have always played as a healer. As DAoC was my first MMO I made friends and grinded (although it didn't really feel like grinding at the time) to 50.

To be honest I'm not really interested in the PvE aspects of DAoC and would like to play RvR as soon as possible, but I read in the rules that the one way I thought I may be able to level isn't allowed (aug-buff bot approach) so my question now is - how often are there low levels/people leveling, or would I mostly have to solo grind to 50 as a healer (very undesirable for me)?

Thank you in advance for your answers :)

Up until level 20 you can do solo kill tasks, which are pretty nice xp, or even Jordheim tasks. After that, grouping up is the way to go. Group bonus is pretty amazing if you get a good group going, and it's not really hard. On higher level Dodens is great and between level 45/46-50, best spot would be the huge field of drakulvs in malmo(near dragon lair). There are mostly executioners and protectors there, along with some disciples. Now, these mobs are weak to body and cold, so having shaman single doting them and RM hitting is very good. I xped there even in groups of 5 and it was great. Just make sure that healer mezz pulls and cc'es all, then assist on mobs 1 by 1. If you have bomb group with pac healer aoe stun, it's very good too. Now, this XP will be cap with camp bonus, once camp bonus is gone it will not be cap but still good.

Now, you could go to summoner's hall as well(because around lvl 45 wolves and yeties in dodens really drop so fast and it's not good xp since you clear the rooms right away), but problem with that is that those mobs are very durable, hit hard, they have positional stun and a group that's not templated and coordinated will wipe there more often than not. Also, they almost zero cash and NO items, while in Malmo you will get alchemy drops, good money, arcanium salvage and well, maybe a flame wrought ring if you get really lucky.

The warm intimacies of small, kindly things, the sentiments and delicious trivialities that make up so much of civilized men's lives were meaningless to him. A wolf was no less a wolf because a whim of chance caused him to run with the watch-dogs. Bloodshed and violence and savagery were the natural elements of the life Conan knew; he could not, and would never, understand the little things that are so dear to civilized men and women."

Thanks for your answer, but it wasn't really relevant to my question?

I would really like to know if there are enough people leveling on the free shard to actually get into groups if just duo grinding my Healer to 50 isn't allowed.

Thanks for the quick reply :) then another question before I invest the time and level up a toon :) do you think it's feasible to find a RvR guild/group (or pickup group) as a healer (I mostly played pac back in the day, but also did quite a lot of aug) or is the server overrun with healers?

There are usually about 20 players below lev 20 on when I play at nights (EST). A lot more during off hours due to the large contingent of Europeans. If you call out on Broadcast chan you likely will be grouped fairly quick.

Note lev 1-20 is all about damage output. Even duo with a DPS class (Runie, Zerker) will get you XP quickly.

Battlegrounds start at lev 20. However Brae is slated for lev 20 through 35. Which means there really isnt much use going when your < lev 30. Under lev 30 Healers are special as you can still substantially help just find a group to protect you.

Brae PvP is often going on. Wilt (36-43) is slow, Thrid (44-49) is often on fire.

Good luck

to sum this up... Yes... yes we always need healers, and yes you will find rvr groups. should not be to hard for you.

If you know how to play the pac game you will be loved in rvr, if you know the aug game you'll be loved in pve. If you know both? Well then :D

Well when playing pac, most of the time you were the stick leader back in the day - and I'm pretty sure no one wants to stick me atm :D I'd just get hopelessly lost

I've started in my journey so far and it's slowly coming back :) but getting to 50 will take quite a while ;)

Start by going 19 aug, it's the base for all healer specs and celerity should speed things up.

When forming your own group, (many times support classes do this) you should always search for a range of players within 7 levels. (XP penalties can be brutal)

To do this, use the /who command but with 2 variables.
Example: "/who 15 22 shaman" this should find all lvl 15-22 shamans online.

Why exactly 7? I heard about 20% of group leader lvl, what is the true range?
There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

20% of group leader level IS the correct range.
