Hi Fine Uthgard Folks,
I received some great help from a very kind soul Ori in getting started (technically) and acclimated on Uthgard. Now however I find myself at level 10 as a shadowblade, without really a clue on how to proceed, as even running across East Sveatland seems daunting. I am hoping to start tailoring soon, but haven't the coin to do so. I would like to spend hours a day leveling, but I can't find groups. Lastly but MOST importantly I don't have a social network of friends to ask questions to in game. If a DAoC snapshot were taken from mid 2008 Albion I could tell you just about everything regarding the realm, the isles, atlantis, and beyond. But this circa 2004 version of Midgard has me quite distraught. I would sincerely appreciate it if any Uthgard veterans would contact me in game on my sb Dearyella with a friendly word, or guidance. I plan on becoming an active member of this community. Dearyo Drum

Many areas are 15-50% bonus and high level players will greatly reduce xp.
The best way to level is going to RvR zones with bonus and finding players all within 7 levels of eachother. To do this, use the /who command with a range. Example "/who 14 21 shaman" will find all shamans level 14-21 online. |

Enjoy this time. It may fee frustrating especially as there seem to be lots of people who run around without a care in the world. One of the best times I has was early on when exploring around Galplen (in those days troll started in Galplen). I got lost in the forest (we did not have a map in those days) and there was a growing feeling of panic as I tried to avoid mobs I had no hope of fighting and find my way back home. If this is new take the time to enjoy it. Try looking for some guides on starting in Midgard and playing a Shadowblade. There is lots of information out there.
Does that mean you have quit the starter guild? If not don't be frighted to ask questions in the guild chat.
Slightly more practically. At level 10 you have 2 main options. Go to Dvailin (get the boat from Vasudheim) and too the East is a tower. Find the guard that gives the 'Kill Tasks' (sorry I don't know which one). Select the guard and
You will be asked to go an kill some monster in a particular direction (This can be anywhere on the current map, but I understand that the tasks at the Davalin tower are pretty close). When you have killed the monster you have to go back to the guard for a nice lot of XP. Your other option is to go to Nisse but for that you really need to be in a group. For that keep an eye on the 'Looking For Group' channel and look for people going to Nisse or even
to advertise yourself as wanting to go to Nisse. To be honest a Shadowblade is not the easiest character to get a group with but still not as bad a Runemaster, Spiritmaster or Hunter. Equipment wise try and pick up what you can but mainly try and keep your weapon at yellow, ideally orange. The low level game is mainly about damage output and if you are in a group then someone else aught to be holding the monsters agro. You can try asking crafters to make you weapons at the lower forge in Jordheim and you may be lucky. Finally I'd hold of the crafting until the money starts to flow in (Usually about level 20). As a Shadowblade I like to go Alchemy so I can make poisons. Yes that does get expensive at higher levels but at the low level poison making it is not too bad and feels useful if you keep putting points in Envenom. All the best |
|
In addition to this, you can get delivery tasks in Jordheim, just /whisper task to any merchant and you can be on your way. These will yield slightly less XP compared to the kill tasks, but it might not always be feasible to go out and find a nice guard who wants things killed. |

It may even be preferable to roll a Skald and level that so that you can learn you surroundings. With a Skald it is easy to farm yellows and downtime is minimalised; speed is also important for getting about.
Plus almost everyone likes to group with a Skald for damage add, speed and rest song. However, at level 10, you can do OK killing the mobs at the top of nisses because the entry mobs will be grey/green, meaning you can travel a bit easier in there. Other good areas to travel are East Svealand, Dvalin (as stated) or Galpen. |

Thanks folks who have replied. I have managed to make it to level 12, and I joined the guild Camelot Unchained, which is comprised of people who have contributed to the Kickstarter Project.
I am doing killtasks for a gaurd near Gna Faste, and trying to get people to group up with me and kill the mobs around Gna Faste. I am a little less frusterated, but killing yellow monsters still seems to be a problem for me. I think I need to start utilizing the envenom skill and respec from sword back to axe at 20. I have not met anyone in game yet from the forums but I am excited to meet some nice folks that I can bounce my great ideas off of <sarcasm> ![]() Dearyo Drum

Folks I'm at level 22 and am cruising . I gained 10 levels in the last 24 hours. I'm getting the hang of daoc again, got a nice UI and hot key setup. Now if I only didn't have grey gear and no money things would be swell. I'm really looking forward to getting 30 by Tomorrow night.

I am now level 32 after a marathon weekend of leveling. I have found darkness falls, and Uppland to be a great spot to level. When I haven't found groups I have had NO issue starting my own even as a shadowblade. The only time I had trouble was Sunday night at 3AM Pacific time when there were only 350 on server wide and 100 mids. For those that say they are having trouble I can offer practical advise, and the 25% bonus event was very helpful. I hope such events occur more often. Thanks for the help board members have been sending my way.

Why are Hunters not wanted in groups - surely they can sit back and fire arrows at a selected target and do good damage? | Runemaster |
