Hello !

I want to play a sorcerer, and my mate a cleric. What is the best way to level together ? Mostly duo and sometimes in a group.

That's how I was thinking about doing our duo...
Cleric : smite/enhancement ? This way he can DD, and have a few spec buffs for us, and for the group.
Sorcerer : matter/mind ? Not 100% mind... because all in mind is a pain to level, even in a duo I guess. Matter = better base dot, and a spec DoT. Level mind only to have a yellow pet.

At least until level 20. Is it a good idea ? And after ?

IMO with a cleric/sorc duo, the matter spec should work well for a sorc. You can follow this spec guide for leveling matter/mind:

Ultimately you will want to be mind/body at 50, but I think that matter is more mana efficient for solo or duo PvE, especially with a cleric healing. As you said, matter provides the spec DOT, but it also decreases the damage variance in all your DOTs.

As for the cleric, I would say dont bother with smite and leave the DPS to the sorc. Cleric should just be enh/rej - most common final specs on this server are 40 enh/36 rej, or 42 enh/33 rej. I would say pick one of those and forget about smite.

Also just wanted to add as a consideration, mind/body spec for the sorc is more fun in BG's for strong DD if you plan to go there while lvling, so its another consideration. body is also better for full grp pve leveling, with a high mind spec for good POM.

Thank you Flynnsarcade for you advices, especially for the cleric spec. We'll go this way, then. I think I will go matter/mind until level 20, and maybe mind/body after for BG fun.

You should definitely look for groups or build them yourselves as cleric/sorc is close to be worst possible duo when it comes to leveling speed

dont let the naysayers tell you smite is worthless, especially in a sorc cleric duo. I been playing this duo and its been great.
dont bring rejuv above 11 as you shouldnt have to heal the sorc much, only his pet. Groups wont like this much but as you said you're going to duo....this way you wont have to wait and depend on grps

stun, dots, smite, pom, and pet = minimal downtime

farm mobs that are weak in spirit, lyonesse, barrows,catacombs,dartmoor

this duo is great for the bg's. a little speed, mezz inc, assist, stun, nuke. PBAOE mezz is great for stealthers

Well... the point is my cleric mate, new to DAoC, wanted to play a pure healer. So no smite, even he is curious about it. We are level 15 for now. Actually we were in duo only at level 5-7 and after in a group. It's very easy to find ppl to fill it, lot of newbies. More fun and my mate can learn better to be a healer !

So be it. By the way, i'm matter/mind and it's very nice ! But low POM... it's the only bad thing (AoE mezz isnt that important in low level PvE). I wonder if i'll stay this way or respec full mind at level 20.

Yes Dirtymind I've already red this, very usefull to level as matter/mind.

I know this is a couple weeks old, but can the cleric use its buffs on the sorc's pet? Can you even buff pets on this server?

afaik u can buff casted pets (cabby, theu) but not charmed pets, but maybe Im wrong, luckily some1 will correct me

At least I as a theurg buff charmed pets with haste/da. Should work for cleric buffs, too - if conc left Also clerics buff ae buffs on earth pets.
