Hello,

Been a long long time since ive played midgard, a few friends of mine are going to play together once a weak or so, and i figured I would try otu the Skald.

After reading through some posts here on skald builds I was going to ask for a few more opinions.

I will be playing PvE and PvP. it will be a long time before this character makes it to 50 so info on how to stat while levling would be cool.

Firstly what is the Main Stats or usefulness for Skald? I am contemplating which Starting race to go with to make SCing later easier.

I think I am sold on the idea of Hammers, low endurance sounds nice!

Specs Ive Seen

44 BS
39 Hammer
29 Parry i think?

the 39 hammer though, I hear people complaining about Bleeds for breaking cc etc. should I go lower?

If I go lower on the Hammer, do I raise BS, or Raise Parry

as mentioned I will be supporting the group for the most part with the occasion solo run for fun. when the rest of the group not on etc.

Any and all info / Help greatly appreciated.

Noone ever uses bleed styles in group rvr... for obvious reasons
As a skald you will be using your lvl 29 hammer style (backstyle, reduce target's movement speed) and your lvl 15 style (anytimer, very low endu costs). You will not be using any of the other styles in group rvr. You will not need any parry in group rvr as well, so you might as well put those points into BS and hammer.

I am specced 50 BS, 43 hammer, 2 parry (a very common skald specc) and am very happy with it.

For levelling, I suggest getting to lvl 15 hammer asap, since that's an awesome style to have... high damage, taunt, very low endu cost).

I can give you a few pointers that might be helpful.

Basics:
Code: Select all
As a skald when you are level 50 the stats that matters are:
Strength: for damage
Constitution: for health
Dexterity: for parry /block
Charisma: for power pool and damage on your spells

Skills that matter:
Hammer/axe/sword: general damage
Parry: to help parrying, very important when solo
Battlesongs: little return for investment, but if you can, it helps the damage

From this you see that a kobold and troll might not be the best idea if you plan to group and solo.

Beginning:
Code: Select all
When you start out you should NEVER go for hammer. It is something you respec into at lvl 20 or 40.

When you are level 6, you should have 6 sword. It is the superior low level anytime style in midgard.
At level 7 you might want 3 BS for speed.

After that you should be at 8 sword, 10 BS at level 11.
10 BS gives you the next health regen song, and it will help A LOT when you exp alone.
Next do as you see fit.

At level 20 you might want to respec sword to hammer, and go for 15 hammer/18 BS,
and at 21 you have 16 hammer/19 BS.

Also when you are at low level you have to think how Uthgard actually works.
So it means that 1 hand + shield is more effective the 20 first levels or so, than going directly for 2 handed.
You will have less downtime like this, and kill more before you have to rest, since you have no parry at low level, and the Uthgard basics makes you block a lot at low level.

What I have mentioned will make sense if you digg into how Uthgard works, if not, then it might sound strange.

Group RvR:
Code: Select all
Here the best option is to have 29 or more in hammer, and 46 BS.
Parry might help, but it is not so important for a skald here.
More in hammer will give you a bit more damage.
44 in hammer will give you the second style after back snare, and it just happen to be the highest Growth Rate style in the hammer line.

I will not go into detail about playstyle and such, since it is too far away anyway, and it will probably be more fun for you if you do not know this right away.

Solo RvR:
Code: Select all
Here Uthgard kinda blows.
It requires you to run fully buffed (costly), and be well kited out (costly).
If you do this, you are still fighting an uphill battle against a kinda broken meta that is too much effected by how the basic mechanics works here.

How to spec for this and what is important one can still speak about.
You have two options really:
i. 46 BS, 39 Hammer, 26 Parry (yes that bleed style is important!)
You get last damage add at 46 bs, bleed at 39 hammer, and parry is your defense.

ii. 50 BS, 34 Hammer, 26 Parry
This is a more kiting setup, because of the higher hp regen, and dd's.

Stats that are important (in order):
Dexterity (defense)
Constitution (health)
Charisma (spell damage)
Strength (melee damage)
Quickness (swing speed)

Skills that are important (in order):
Parry (defense)
Hammer (melee damage)
Battlesongs (small increase in spell damage)

I hope this do help you at least a little bit.
