Hi all,

when uthgard server is back i want to play midgard. I love to play stealthers.
So my first choice would be a shadowblade.
But on this patchlevel a shadowblade has big disadvantages against infi or ns

1, debuffpoison is a str/con debuff. So infi and ns only suffer half of dmg reduce and the sb 100%
2, ra's: infi can achieve a double pa and ns viper ... sb only shadowrun?
3, infi get's more skillpoints

4, the only advantage i see is that sb's la is allways hitting

So is a sb competitive in stealthwar?

Also important for me is how competitive a sb is at low rr. I dont have that much time for daoc so on the long run rr6 or 7 will be the highest rr i will achieve

The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

I'd say SB is probably the weakest of the 3, but if I remember they were damn tough on genesis because they could easily run 75 strcon buff as it was a common drop. Combined with LA damage, they out damage NS/INF but as you said, they have some nicer styles/RAs. All in all, rock paper scissors :)

Is LA necessary here? Are critblades not gonna be a thing? I'd be really disappointed, they were gods in classic daoc.. :|

I ran this spec long ago. It was amazing! Backstab some poor elf sitting down on a bridge and he died. And didn't even break stealth if your target died. But I used a 2 handed axe. No staff.

From the 1.50 Patch Notes:
ASSASSINS AND "ONE SHOT" KILLS

Up until the original 1.50 patch, Assassin characters were able to remain hidden if they killed their target in one shot. This "ability" has been in the game since the inception of Critical Strike Combat Styles. However, we never intended for it to work that way - it is generally not a good game dynamic to have stealthed characters killing people and not becoming visible. Some assassins (not all, just some) were abusing this "ability" to one-shot kill "gray" level enemies and kill them with no chance of being found. But, at the time that we found out that assassins were able to do this, the assassin classes as a whole were still a bit underpowered, so we made the choice not to fix the bug.

As most assassins know, in the 1.50 patch, we inadvertently fixed the "one shot kill but remaining stealthed" bug (by fixing a few bugs relating to hidden players attacking monsters). Now that assassin characters are no longer underpowered, and no longer need any additional advantages, we have decided to keep this fix in. So, assassins will no longer be able to remain stealthed after one-shot kills. Assassins will still be able to kill some lower level (and probably "blue" level mages) characters in one shot, but no longer will they be able to do this with the impunity that they have enjoyed.

Even if you go for Critblade, you should still skill LA, because
(a) there will not be much 1-shots
(b) your weapon skill with 2h is horrible (you will get blocked/evaded/miss a lot)
(c) better application of poisons with weapons.

You can do your 2h PA (which cannot be blocked/parried/evaded), but make sure to switch to 2 weapons afterwards. And spec LA :D

Yea, but this patch happened VERY early into daoc (less than a year into the game I think... RAs either weren't even out yet or had just been released, put it that way) and people played critblades effectively for years still after this. Even after SI released they were still good.

At that time, basically noone used charges or even BBs.
And people just knew (and cared) a lot less about game mechanics.

2h PA is fun, I even had a lot of good laughs using a 2h staff on a NS, but after PA/backstab, you just suffer with low weaponskill, in particular in the presence of buffs.
