I believe a dark RM gives more of a balance of utility + damage to a group- - Dark spec nukes hit harder and cast faster than the suppression snare nuke - You still get nearsight (blue) in a 47/26 spec. The difference between blue and red nearsight is there but not as noticable as people believe it to be - You get the high spec damage add for the tanks in the group - You get blue PBT which is going to be enough (and better on your power) than the red PBT - You still get A snare nuke, although it has a much higher chance to get resisted, it still could be useful to snare a tank off someone else in the group. For a PvE perspective, supp RM's are better since red PBT will save your healers some work where power is a bigger issue than live servers. The Supp nuke kind of sucks on on a classic-style server, since it takes longer to cast and you have the "double" resist chance- the damage and then the snare component. Plus it doesn't delve as high as the dark spec nuke. Not to mention keeping red pbt up + nuking, you will run out of power very fast. -Ramo

What about RC spec?
"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die." |

RC RM as an only caster in a group is a bit pointless. RC RM can do some decent damage, but power will be an issue always for any debuff caster. Also, you miss out any utility in the suppression line with any decent RC spec.
The only way I personally would run a RC RM is if you pair it up with a Dark RM. Otherwise, for a single caster in a group scenario, the Dark RM gives so much more balance of utility with damage. -Ramo

+1 I have done quite a few rm's from 1-20 to figure out what was best to exp solo. My initial thought was rc, but I was so mistaken. What turned the table was the damage add. Yes, even for solo it mattered. Basically it ment I could finish mobs off with a swing of my staff, instead of wasting power on an additional nuke. RC also had the bolt-cooldown that did slow stuff down. Supp was the easiest, but it did cost a lot more power than darkness to kill monsters. Basically in an ideal pve group the rm is the puller, so he will not be nuking anything at all. You want the next monster to arrive when the previous one is at 15% hp, and to keep this constant. Only a caster with debuff-pulling can do this consistently on mid. |

Come on...The supp nuke isnt thaaat bad... Its 179 (snare) base compared to 219 base. And 6sec pbt is just fantastic.
Lvling in a group as a supp RM is like playing a minstrel in a group. You go afk while doing your thing, and the group will love you for it. Also, red PBT can usually make your healers go afk, since theres nothing to do. Also ALSO! Theres always the 48 RC spec to consider. If you ally yourself with some darkness RMs, you will all hit like trucks with the debuff. And you'll have a ****** of fun defending and attacking keeps and in zergs. Youre not much use in a group though... |

Suppression if your a lone caster in a group, especially in RvR. Lots of utility.
- Snare for the tank MA, - ae snare for the enemy tank train. - Red Ns in a server with no cure - 6s pbt. Darkness isn't a bad option either though with blue Ns and blue pbt. Runecarving if you play with other dark spec rms and sms. So all in all it depends on your playstyle. - Super dps, decent utility Or - Super utility with decent dps. How about the combo of a runecarving RM and darkness spiritmaster in a small group?
Darkness SM has energy debuff for the RM. Runecarver has cold debuff for the SM. Grouped with a skald I'm thinking even though squishy and low RR, we could have a quick hitting trio that could drop targets rapidly. Thoughts? |
