The server hosting our patching data, and the uthgard.org website is having problems. As I said "defensively", as long as we patch your client, it will be impossible to connect to the server if the webserver is down. No matter how players connect (.exe application, .bat script, website) they would be unable to connect as long as we enforce patching the client before connecting. No server has 100% uptime, even facebook crashes now and then and becomes unavailable.
Got any questions? Submit them to me and I will try to get them answered in our grab bag ! I think everybody just wants to know what going on to be honest Trishin. A little communication goes a log way. Don't be so defensive. You could have just made a post outlining what has happened, could have solved a million mysteries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My mind’s made up, don’t confuse me with facts. You mustn't assume that your personal situation is a reflection of every other person that has logged in to Uthgard.

I did not add that info as the issue was resolved as you can see by the messages before my first one. I was not trying to be defensive, I was trying to explain why the launcher would have had exactly the same problem.

in this context, I posted some ping/tracert logs a few days ago, to me (from AUS via US) it seems very much hetzner.de does not have a good international connection ... pings to hetzner.de domain are much worse than other german webhosters
cheers

Although in the 'server new features' the webpagelauncher has been advertised as the most secure and useful login method, taking their own server down is the fastest way to indirectly take down the server and preventing new logins. But why should they do that? Don't know. Anyway, i think that by this time they should have already acknowledged it and start to take corrective actions.
The web-server setup has been a point of failure since day 0, that is no news to us. All content you require for connecting is running on one server -- be it launcher content or patcher content, while the game server is running by itself. Even if there was no play button on that page, you would not be able to connect, because we prioritize client integrity over a fail-open behavior. Trishin already covered this explanation in detail. We know that that is not an ideal setup -- in an enterprise environment everything should be running at an N+2 redundancy level at least. But that means spending three times the amount of money on servers than what we are currently spending, which is just not feasible for a project without any funding. In the long run that just means that you have to live with the occasional downtime of an hour or two now and then. It is sunday, afternoon. How come no staff member has yet answered anything about the issue? "Yes, we know", "we're doing this and that", "no ETA", "will be done when it will be done"... Reminds me of old uth 1.0 days
I don't know what time zone you live in, but I got a phone call at 7am that the server is down, and looked into it ASAP then. It's clearly early sunday morning. How come no staff member has yet answered anything about the issue?
When you're busy fire fighting, writing detailed forum posts is probably the least of your concerns. ---- Note that down-times like these are just part of the Beta experience. We've changed a lot of our setup since Uthgard v1, and we have to iron out the details on how to make it more fool proof. Server should be up and running again; thank you for your patience!
Be nice. :)
