Looking to make a Warrior in the Beta, but can't decide on specs.
50 Sword for Ragnarok is a given, but I can't decide on 42 or 49 Shield. With 42 Shield, I can get 34 or 39 Hammer, which increases my Weapon Skill when using Conquer (behind-Snare), which might be valuable with the new mechanics. With 49 Shield, I can get the bare minium of 29 Hammer, which is enough for Conquer, but will result in less Weapon Skill. I also get 4.5% more block chance and probably higher Weapon Skill when using Slam. Suggestions/ideas? |

Depends on what kind of playstyle you're aiming for.

If you level up using an Axe as your weapon you can enjoy the 50 Sword 50 Shield 33 Hammer Specc.
1-40 Specc into Axe + Shield 40 /respec Axe 40-48 Use your auto trained Sword Taunt Style and don't put any points in the Hammer or Sword Line 48-50 Specc into Sword + Hammer + Shield |

According to the following post you can't autotrain 2 weapon lines by speccing the third line you won't use later on:
But I don't know if this will work the same way on uthgard. Kaasi - Shaman

you can't go wrong with a warrior spec. 50 weapon, 42 shield, and plenty of parry.

If you spend one single point into axe/sword/hammer you do not autotrain all weapons anymore. It was implemented like this on Uth 1.0. If you really want to use the full autotrain you have 2 options. First one, level to 48 with shield only or second one, buying a lot of respec stones.
I know that splitspec was quite popular on Uth 1.0, however due to the fixed defense penetration on Uth 2.0 your low weaponskill in the second weapon will lead to increased miss/parry/evade/block. I would go 50 weapon, 50 shield, rest parry. 50 shield because I love brutalizer (longest stun) and for the weaponskill, because nothing is more annoying than your slam getting evaded 3 times in a row.... Cheers |

Split spec should still be viable in some cases. Like if you go 50 Sword, and 29 Hammer (for Conquer), it should be fine against all classes except those with Advanced Evade, since you can't block, parry or evade (save for Advanced Evade) against attacks from behind. In those cases weaponskill shouldn't matter as much.

Envoy - Bard Aegis - Blademaster Ethical - Mentalist |

What are the advantages/disadvantages of not auto training on a warrior. Are you losing some viable specs or weapon styles? or is it you can get 33 hammer instead of 32 etc..

By autotraining you gain 77 points. Without autotraining you would get 2979 points. Whether that is worth gimping yourself for 48 levels is up to you.
But to put it in a spec: Instead of 50 sword 50 shield and 28 parry. You get 50 sword 50 shield and 31 parry. If you manage up to lvl 12 without speccing. You would get 29 parry. And be a lot better all the way up. Thats probably what I will do. The next point where this would matter in this spec is 36 points, aka 8 lvls = level 36. Na Fianna Dragun / The Dark Alliance

you could just skill any weapon u dont want to use later till 40, and respec on your favorite weapon, this would give you 50weapon 50shield and 30parry instead of 28without AT at all ( with AT to 48 it would be 31 parry )

To put this into perspective, I Googled Uthgard parry chance formulas. This is what I found. Not sure if accurate for Uthgard 2.0 but it's a start.
Ignoring realm rank bonus, template, and dex (which would cancel out in math being all the same) 28 parry (no AT) would give 19% where 31 parry (full AT) would give 20.5%. 48 miserable levels for 1.5%. Is it worth it? Up to you.
It's been stated by Devs that if you train in any weapon line, you lose AT in all weapon lines. E.g. you can't train in any. Shield/throwing weapons only. |

Seems like there is still a lot of confusion about AT, the following guide should still be accurate as nothing has changed from Uthgard 1.0:
