Something wrong with Left Axe?

Did an i30 zerk, specced 29 LA / 29 Axe, collected the free gear and tried a few basic mobs (blue / yellow con).
Now before I continue, I appreciate that: a) Unbuffed b) 85% qua weapons (indeed the left axe you get is 6.9 dps?!) however the damage was woeful. Offhand weapon hitting for 6 or 7 damage on blues? When I finally ditched that weapon with a drop my offhand went up to approx 20-30. Mainhand was approx 50-60. It was so bad I actually went 2handed ![]() Anyhoo, not a complaint per se, merely been trying out all sorts of toons on all three realms and that stood out. Thoughts? |

My thoughts are that the gear that was implemented with i30 was so awful that it made testing stuff a lot harder than it needed to be. And I think that's a good reason we saw a huge dive in population.

Thanks for the response,
I tried to take into account the fact the gear was poor - but even so does 6 or 7 with the offhand really sound correct to you? I also appreciate that this is after 'The Great LA Nerf' of 1.62 ![]() Just seemed broken to me tbh. |

I made a zerker and I'm 30 LA at 30 and waited to play him until I could get proper weapons and armor. I'm using a cleaverI made in my main hand and a LA from either spin or varulv (I can't remember which) that is 90q. My dmg seems to be in line with what it is supposed to be while fighting blues and yellows. I can chain 2 blues, only stopping for endo after the second. I can do the yellow easily, but endo stops me from chaining them as I can the blue.

The i30 was implemented a while after beta was launched, people had a lot of time to get some 90ish % quality drops in varulv/spindel/other places and would have much more fun in bgs. It's really not anyone's fault that a bunch of morons rolled characters, got the ****** free 85% quality gear with no stats, begged in jord for 10 silver and then went to bgs with no stats and crap gear. It is what it is.

Well I wasn't actually blaming anybody for being moronic. But now that you mention it, perhaps it was moronic to farm for level 30 gear just to test stuff that we already knew worked? I guess the players decided it was a bad idea when the population dived from 750+ to around the 200 mark in a matter of weeks. But hey, those morons should have spent all their time farming shouldn't they? Bloody morons! My mind’s made up, don’t confuse me with facts.

That's only one of the reasons population went down, and probably the least important one. Among some others, this time of the year was always low population time, due to people being on vacation or just wanting to spend more time outside. Also, beta lasted long enough already so people are not as enthusiastic as when it started, which is normal. As for farming, it's not really hard to get some jewelry and half-decent items so you at least have something. I wasn't even talking about the testing, but the fact that you have more fun in battlegrounds if you hit a bit harder and if you have some resists and hit points. If you ask me, the ****** free gear should not have been there at all, because you're better off wearing bear skins and using wooden sticks as weapons than equipping that crap. I mean, at least 50% of people did some xping just for fun and most got way past lvl 30, it's really hard to imagine that by that point in beta a significant amount of people didn't already have some varulv, spindel, vendo and DF stuff, so that 85% quality crap was pointless. If you're gonna use sarcasm, you should upgrade your IQ so it's above the room temperature in degrees Celsius. I heard high doses of turmeric vastly improved the ability of mice to find the way out of the maze much faster, perhaps it works on humans. End of discussion. It is what it is.

I love how you're pointing your finger at me like I'm the one that's gone to bg with crap gear and I'm complaining about it. I actually levelled to 46 or so way before i30. And I had a couple of toons over 30 before that as well. I haven't even set foot in cale even once. Telling me I'm stupid for not playing with i30 gear is, well, stupid in itself.
The op asked whether the sh*t gear had something to do with the numbers he was getting. And I said yes, albeit in a round-about way. Thanks for the tip about the IQ tho, I'm just upgrading now... I also heard that you can shove turmeric up your butt for a whole days worth of tingly excitement. Perhaps you could give that a go instead of acting like a douche. I dont know in the other realms but in mid after creating your i30 char, at least for some classes, you can replace most of your "crap free gear" with epic quest and farming some OTDs.
It's the thrill of the chase
and I'm coming after you. |

I really hope that this is not indicative of the type of response or general style of comment that will be prevalent on the boards come release. Every single one of the mid toons I i30'd was taken to Muspelheim to farm for some gear before doing anything else, and also to test all of the OTD's I remembered being there from 'back in the day'. (I will admit I also wanted to go and see the fire giants again ![]() My understanding was that beta was made available to test the current 'state of the game' yes? And asking for enough silver for a horse ride so you can get to the capital to i30? What is wrong with that? Depending on what realm / race you chose you could start in the middle of nowhere and with an average lv 1 mob dropping 2 copper's worth it is an hour of meaningless button pressing / mob slapping just so you can get to what you are supposed to be doing? My point is it could have been a tad better thought out imho (like i30'ing a Briton scout in Camelot but being given no arrows and then having to run multiple zones just to kill a green to afford to buy some) ![]() Anyway, we are all here for the same reason yes? DAOC was our first love and nothing else that has came out since has quite hit the spot. So for that reason lets keep things civil yes? |
