News about the beta and the future

As someone being told to STFU let me give you some wisdom. 120 people logged in right now. Maybe some people don't like being told to STFU or if you don't like it leave. Maybe a whole lot took that advice-- and left. https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37632
Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them. Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs. |

uh, megatron is finally here. the guy that annoys every freeshard staff with his ultimate words of wisdom, instead of creating his own one

Please GOD let i50 and end of beta be soon.
The pop has dwindled to nothing. You cant test or collect data or god forbid exp in DF because the 50s dont really have anything to do but log out in there and log in every 30m to kill greys. Its dead out here. Really need the next step soon. Server is straight up in stasis right now. |
|
then don't, honestly, if you don't have time don't waste your time in BETA ... wait for Uthgard to go live ... imagine the time you can save and you wouldn't have to make weird "but I want to have my Christmas present now" - posts
most normal people would only spend limited time on a BETA where all their efforts are going to get wiped, how is it so hard to understand that player population in BETA is not representative for live cheers |
|
I like the optimism that the only reason for low pop is because of the imminent wipe. I really hope that's the case to be honest. But being realistic then I think it would be safe to say that that is not the only reason keeping people from playing on it hard at the moment. Either recent changes, or just the server ruling as a whole has had its effect on the population too. Even those who don't struggle to hit max level or farm some gear and cash have stopped playing. I wouldn't say it was for fear of a wipe, I'd say there were some other underlying reasons for their departure.

like... summer?

If you want to call summer an underlying reason then sure, why not? Daoc was always a winter game... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk My mind’s made up, don’t confuse me with facts.

For sure it was and still is. Player numbers always dropped by around 50% on Uthgard during summer. But I also agree it is not the only reason. Beta's always have a limited lifetime, plus the magic effect: As soon as the playernumbers drop below a certain amount (like at least 150 in every realm) the numbers tend to drop even faster. And it is very hard to reanimate such a server (as genesis proves). Good thing Uthgard has 2 defibrillator charges left: i50 and the release.

most people i know who want to play on live uthgard didn't even installed the beta. we all know how this game works, theres nothing to test besides hunting boring bugs. as much as i want to help the staff that's just way to much effort asking fort he common player when there is a char wipe afterwards. so we leave the beta to the hardcore geeks and i think they did a good job so far. a lot of reports on the bug tracker.

All we know , what was on the beginning of the TEST, many players around , good spot's camped , many ppl where intrested in searching for bugs, others gone forward asap, to find some bugs in DF, Crafting/Salvaging , Mob's drop and so on ! Thx to all who helped the server to go LIVE faster during the nice summer. There will be a chance to test DRAGON's and RelicRaid's in the future ! Cya there ! |

I remember a dream of a great free server named Uthgard. It was pretty damned cool. There was like 1k peak population on. Then the devs stopped listening to their players and got rid of many things that made the game fun. Eventually it caused the population to drop and annoyed enough people another server was made-- origins/genesis. Well the server did some things right but their technical skill lacked and they had some issues with GMs. Regardless we see that when you lose players it is really hard to get them back.
Now on beta we had huge hype and lots wanted to play it and try it but after a few months it is pretty much only the die hard few who are left playing. The devs went too far in their sterile lifeless 1.65 lock patch without even map or lfg it is ridiculous. The good news is it is not too late to learn a little bit about beta and put a few more things in to make a thriving live daoc server. This includes map, lfg, bg bind, and some reason to get out into frontier for xp or rp bonus. If they don't learn the server will be like this beta. And it ****** me off because I loved uthgard one. I would even be willing to play 1.65 but just a few non game changing and no time sink type changes would help a lot, map, lfg, bind in bg. If they do that then fine if not this server is one dead server waiting to happen. Also no real reason to take keeps. No real reason to go out into frontier like xp bonus. Go ahead and call me names and delete my posts but I'M HELPING this is good advice and instead of ****** on me, listen to me, your server population will thank you!!! https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37632

I50 will bring a few back but in a month or so it will be back to this current pop. Live will bring lots out but in a few months (six) without some tweaks on the rules, this will be the population. I'm not sure what is supposed to encourage pvp here. No xp bonus in frontier, no rps for keeps, no bind in bg. It is like the ruleset was for a server made by people who don't like fun. https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37632

A lot of perfectly legit points in this post. However, I played the beta and checked it out and there are some problems going forward. This is also reflected in the population. Not learning from history and not admitting mistakes or listening to players is going to end up with less than good results. https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37632

The devs can ignore me if they want, that is their right and since they run things they'll move along at whatever pace they choose, I'm just putting in my 2 cents and if you dont like it dont read my posts.
Oh trust me, I've downloaded the dawn of light server and tested it out... I'd start my own server but after realizing you have to be a pretty hardcore C sharp developer to make any changes I deleted the server.. I don't have time to learn c sharp anytime soon. That being said if anyone wants to get ahold of the Lethantis, Genesis or Uthgard code I'd love to start with a good server base and recruit a dev or two to make some tweaks. My server would be pvp, with old frontiers, Relic bonuses for guilds. I've got 3 big servers (250GB ram/24 cores between them) and a 100mb/sec connection in my lab ... I'm a vmware guy, not a developer so the dev help would be a requirement. |
