Hey, im planning to roll mid at the start of the server with a few friends. My true love is hunter, but I'd prefer that to be a second character so I can afford to template him for BG levels and make the solo leveling process a lot less painful.

I'll have a few friends with me, although they might not play as much or consistently as me. Which class would be ideal to level relatively quick in small groups or dungeon groups, maybe solo once in a while, do a little rvr with etc while also being able to save up money for my hunter alt.

Thanks!

I'd recommend making a bonedancer and skilling him up to salvage. Its not a great choice for rvr unless you like to 1v1 stealthers but like you said you mostly just want something to fund your hunter alt.

A fun trio is BD, skald and shaman. You can speed from camp to camp with buffs, survivability if you keep the aggro on the BD, and not bad damage with dots + double dmg add.

BD is a great solo, character for making money but a very lonely path, outside of your friend grp you may have a very hard time finding parties. I'd suggest warrior, zerker, savage, skald.
As far as farming for money diamond seals and salvage the stuff or run malmo for that loot to salvage. Healers and Shamans will find parties crazy fast too, and duos for rvr and etc. I've seen some shamans farm some serious stuff w/ kiting. From bands of ice to pulling too many wolves in dodens.

I had a shaman during beta...i didnt get groups crazy fast. It seemed the game was relatively saturated with seers. Skald is prob best choice for what variety of stuff you listed. Can get groups, can solo farm decently, can get rvr groups, can small man rvr easily. Doesnt take a ton of money to make it effective

Probably a Shaman, everyone wants you even if your way below level (there is no level cap penalty on uth 2.0)
give them endo and buffs they good to rek shiz up.

Warrior is probably solid too. Can farm solo even with provoke spam and block.

I would suggest shaman aswell, you won't have problems finding groups. It is also a solid farm / tinker class and if your friends are around and you are too far ahead of them you can support them and help them catch up.

any proof on this? in beta if u where below 4/5 of the highest in the grp, you got really ****** exp

for example: if you the highest member in your grp was lv 30, everyone below lv24 (30*4/5=24) would get very ****** exp.

Yes, I tested this, and you can read the results here:

A good 1st char in my view, would be one that either fits for a lot of different aspects of the game OR farms exceptionally well. Do remember, that even though solofarming works well for making gold, doing grouped PvE-stuff is also a sustainable way to make a living. Off the top of my head, here are the different classes that I'd recommend for 1st char:

Great solo farmer:

Bonedancer
Spiritmaster

Reasonable solo farmers // needed for PvE raids // Generally used in RvR-groups:

Shaman
Warrior

Needed for PvE raids // Generally used in RvR-groups:

Healer
Runemaster (could argue that they were in the category above too)
Berserker/savage (I'd recommend Berserker)
Skald (might be wrong here, not sure how well Fury of The Gods works)
