Never played this game back in the, first MMORPG I played was WoW vanilla and since Blizzard aint making any legacy servers this is what I intend to play thanks to the amazing dev team.

Anyhow, the best part of MMOs in my opinion is the community and I love leveling with someone, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in that? Only requirment I have is that you live in the EU due to time differences. I'm going to play a Valkyn berserker. And I don't care if you are a newbie like myself, although I should warn you that I go back to uni the 9th of january so I won't be avaible at the early hours of the day.

I would highly suggest joining one of the large, casual guilds on Midgard (like <Empire>). Unlike WoW (even in Vanilla!), you really can't play this game solo, it's all about making lots of friends, and getting into bigger groups. As a new player, trying to play with just one or two friends can be difficult, and may often leave you stranded and alone when things don't work out.

Getting into a larger guild really opens up the game to you, and gives you much easier access to things like RvR, player crafting, raids, etc. Luckily, most of Uthgard's pop will be EU, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding players to group with. I hope you have tons of fun at launch, and don't let anyone convince you out of your preferred race/class! :)

If you are a complete beginner and come from a game that is a bit less cruel on its players (in terms of time sinks and learning curve), it may be worthwhile asking for advice on class/race if this is really your first time playing the game. Takes ages to get to 50 and nothing more frustrating than finding out that you picked a combo that won't give you the best experience for whatever it is you are looking for.

Done some research but don't want to spoil everything, but it seems to take much less time to reach max level compared to WoW (vanilla) so that journey won't be that harsh. Plus the journey to max level is part of the game and should be fun like it was in WoW.

Your research was false,
DAOC grind to 50 at this patch level is much much harsher then WoW at any stage.

I do not agree. Ppl get to 50 in 4 days (as mentioned in another thread). That's very in the line of classic WoW. I remember it took me 5 days for my first WoW char and I was one of the faster ones in my guild.
No way to compare to ultra classic daoc where many ppl had over 20 days for the first char.

While it may be possible, it's improbable that a brand new player to DAOC would reach 50 in 4 days played.

No hand holding like WOW. This game is not for the faint of heart that come with that form of expectation out of this game.

Mh ok you are right. True, for absolute beginners, it will most likely take more time than Vanilla WoW.
On the other hand, at least at launch, beginners can profit the most as many veterans will be there who know how to quickly level. It is different than in the beginning. But yes, it would surprise me if a newb gets to 50 in 4 days. Won't be 20 days, but I guess more in the region of 8-10 days.

I would recommend to try to find a guild which I am sure there are many out there. They can hold hands and support you in finding leveling groups and be there for questions.

I do want to insist you do some racial starting/ending stats and hard cap research before starting. Unfortunately valkyns are given too much quickness on creation and will likely go over cap on completion. Berserkers damage is 100% based off of strength, but you still want to be able to swing fast enough too! Just keep that in mind when creating after 5 days played time finding out u wished u were a dwarf troll or norse or something

I'd be careful when it comes to these estimates re:1-50; those tend to apply to people that know the game very well and perhaps even have a community of players to support them. At this patch level, I think you'll find the experience to be a bit painful. Unlike WoW, there are no (worthwhile) quests to keep you equipped and the game does not funnel you through it's content by well laid out maps and NPCs waving you along. You are also unlikely to make enough cash while levelng to keep your toon reasonably well equipped. If you don't know the best level spots for your class and level and don't have a steady group of people to group up with, this game under this patch setting is pretty nasty at times, especially past level 40.

It helps to go into this with the right expectations, so you don't get frustrated too quickly. Hope everything works out ok!
