I've read they're decent solo pve/pvp and have nothing to add rvr/8v8.
Is this true? |

Sadly it wasn't until much later that thanes got the love they needed to be viable. They are a fun class but are super bad compared to literally anything else.

With static storm (RA 5L) you can find a specific group in RvR but actually it's bugged. So create a warrior is better now, large shield and deter ...

no 5L RAs in 1.65
It's the thrill of the chase
and I'm coming after you. |

If you really like a class, just go ahead and play it. Maybe you won't be invited to every group like the other 0815 classes, but there will be enough people who don't care about the absolute setup and just play the game. Also, thane is really good for any keep fight or standoff at milegates.

Dont listen to people who say play anything you want. Its not how this game works. Being a Thane basically is the lowest of the low in the foodchain. its a sad thing cause they are seriously fun. But fun is also grouping and being progressive in RvR and being needed in the Realm. If you wanna play a Thane to its full extent you kind of needs to be a serious hardcore player who dont fear being alone 99% of the time. Also we all know how much it sucks being in a bad group. "people will invite you" sure they will. but you will suck and die and when people die they disband.

exactly waht Tbone said, play what you want, dont listen to others. sure your thane might not be as astrong as the others, but you'll have alot more fun playing the class you enjoy Me and my friend are a thane/shaman combo and we love it |

That's not what he said.

They have 2 great uses: keep fights and Zerg standoffs. They far exceed warriors when line of sight can be used effectively, and their versatility between range and melee helps them turn a Zerg fight into mid favor.
Their weak points are, however, painfully apparent. No det means open field RvR is difficult for them. They also don't bring anything unique to a group and no buffs to speak of. I will probably make one as my melee fun class, but I'm going into it knowing the challenge and consequences of choosing it over a warrior. If you choose to make one, know that those challenges never go away. |

I've grouped with a few thanes. From a healer perspective, just don't break mezzes and we will love ya!

Thanes are a lot of fun to play IMO. My very first character was a dwarf thane. While I enjoyed playing him, I'd not be telling the whole truth if I didn't also mention that I was upset trying to find a serious RvR group by the time I got to end game.
So I'd suggest it depends on your playstyle and what you hope to accomplish. If you're looking to explore and PvE, maybe some casual RvR and keep defense later on, thane is a mighty fine choice. If you're looking to increase your odds of getting into often full PvE groups (i.e., some groups replace DPS leaving the group with a Warrior, Zerker, Savage, or Skald before taking Thane) or more serious RvR/8v8, it's going to be more challenging. Never impossible, but more difficult than if playing a more "traditional" class. Good luck! Level 50 Troll of Uthgard

Player > Class. Always!!
A good Thane is always better than for instance a bad Warrior. If you wan't to play a Thane just frigging do it man. A Thane has it s own advantages compared to other tanks and they are fun to play. |
|
Why you give bad advice, nobody wants a thane in RvR, and nobody wants a bad warrior in RvR either, so both won't get a group, or get booted instantly... |
|
Why do all the really fun classes totally suck lol. Reavers, Champs, and Thanes.
