I was wondering how tough it is to charm OJ mobs and keep them under control during a fight. I currently have 32 + 5 with my drum and thought I could charm OJ without to much issue. Evidently I was wrong. I would think it would resists but not completely lose the pet all the time.

Does it just base the resists on the initial charm since if I equip my S/S my instruments will drop to 32.

Any experiences would be great. Maybe its not working as expected??

I could be wrong, but I think the Minstrel charm functions like the Mentalist charm

0.33 x your level
0.66 x your spec
to equal the reliable charm level

At level 30 with 30+5 you should be able to hold a level 33 mob

But like I said, I could be wrong. Just finished trying a Minstrel briefly at noticed the charm get resisted vs a level 9 mob but the Mentalist had no issue holding onto a higher level mob. Maybe a bug?

Technically this calc is "reliable charm level" as you said : you are supposed to be able to charm up to that level without much resists and more than that level with much further resists (some have seen RR 10 minstrels with 50 instru charm lvl 60+ mobs spamming the charm spell when the formula stops at 54 i think...)

I want to say at 25ish I was charming the bears west of Cornwall Inn, near the ants beside the broken tower. There is a group of 8ish bears that vary a bit in level. If they're too high the bears/wolves closer to the Inn are lower level.

I found that spot to work well and give decent loot. From there I moved to Bucca's and everything in the field and then Boogeys followed by Rooters.

In addition I found using a stronger pet to come back and chain-farm yellows seemed pretty effective.

Most of the times, I think you'll get away easy in groups, simply because everything you can offer, other than group speed is already in plenty in groups and therefore people won't care / notice.

For example, groups won't expect you to play PoM etc, simply because they'll most likely have a Sorc for it.
They might tho, ask you to grab a healer / buffer pet, like Myrian ant in order to make Clerics / Friars have an easier time.

But expect some people to be unhappy in general if / when they'll find out that you AT Instruments.

From what i understand from formula i can as a AT minstrel at lvl 24 + 6in Instrument and +5 in items charm an level 15,18 mob (lvl 15)

For solo purpose do i want to charm an healer or tank version?
im made this table based on +5 to instrument in my gear:

Instrument skill level, Char level, , total pet level

6. 24 =15,2
6. 25 =15,5
6. 26 =15,8
6. 27 =16,2
7. 28 =17,2
7. 29 =17,5
7. 30 =17,8
7. 31 =18,2
8. 32 =19,1
8. 33 =19,5
8. 34 =19,8
8. 35 =20,1
9. 36 =21,1
9. 37 =21,5
9. 38 =21,8
9. 39 =22,1
10. 40 =23,1

These numbers can ofc be higher as you can get higher than +5 bonus after 24, but i dont know the caps.

If I read the original poster correctly, he is charming a pet, then unequiping his instrument for a sword and shield. Without the instrument equiped, the pulsing spell will drop, so he will lose the mob because of that, surely?
