Hideurkids, how has leveling worked out for you? I recently started an Theurg alt and am really enjoying it. I was thinking about following the Ice to 18 path and then focus on Earth to 35 then speecing Ice to 41. Have there been any drawbacks?

It's dependent on how you play really. After KT's end at 20, you are going to want a group. The power becomes an increasing struggle as you level. In beta I soloed through everything and was ice the whole way, and it was doable, and with proper management the power wasn't an issue, but it was slow as f**k.

You will want your first PBT at 26/earth ASAP to get grouped. Frankly though, getting a group as a Theurg is damn near impossible at this point.

I'm 42 and haven't gotten grouped in like a week. There is a mass of us, and people just don't need us. However, when groups do call upon you, if you don't have PBT you can forget about it.

Tl:DR - Going your spec will probably do you just fine as you will have PBT rather early.

Imo, no significant draw backs. I'm 38 now. You can solo or grp very well.

Like I said, the only part that kinda sucks is not having pbt immediately at 26, but you get it at 32. If you go full ice, you have to wait until 40 to respec and are less useful in groups until then. If you go full earth you lose your solo potential since earth pets are not great for pve.

Necro + Ice is phenominal.

That said, I'm at 21 right now and have been quite happy with the class thus far. I'm going a hybrid route:
* Ice to 18, for pet (done)
* Earth to 26, for pbt (in progress)
* Ice to 25 for lvl 25 pets
* Earth to 40, for lvl 40 pets
* ?? thinking air to 4 for AOE mez, then rest ice.

Theurg is so boring. Re-roll.

I was full ice until 20 and I used my respec to go earth and it is really is boring. I also cant get any groups on NA weeknights. I'm only 22 but those 2 levels have been brutal.

From everything I've read it is a mistake to respec to earth at 20. You lose all of your solo ability and you don't have pbt until 26. I'm going Ice until 18 and then will spec Earth. Final spec will be 41 Ice, 35 Earth. The class is a lot of fun if you don't go straight earth spec, especially in the early levels.

I am playing a full earth theurg until now (39). I played all of this time in groups. Most of the time I created these groups myself. With a bit aggressive /send to players and using LFG tool and alliance chat it usually does not take longer than 30 minutes to get your group together. Even if there are a lot of other theurgs competing. I assume most of these theurgs do not work much to get groups.

Given this, I found the earththeurg with pbt, emergency petstorm, da and Haste and the emergency root (when sorc is sleeping/dead) all really useful additions to the groups I created.

Currently leveling a theurg solo at all is completely pointless and horrible. If you don't have a group, it will take you exponentially longer than any other class due to the pets draining xp.

But it is not easy to find groups unless you can be on at least 7-8+ hours a day. As a 44 theurg who only has a few hrs a night tops, you will be hard pressed to find a group, especially one that's ok with you only having 1-2 hrs tops to play.

Probably not true all the way across the board, but it has been true in my experience to this point.

Edit: also, I have found the LFG tool useless since the start. I think I have messaged at least 100 people who were flagged b/c I was trying to start groups and I would either get no response after multiple tells or I would get "I'm not lfg". It's been really aggravating.

The xp change to pets definitely is a bit of a buzz kill for the solo theurg
