We had rewards on Uthgard 1 and it was abused.

Ok, but I have watched 3 folks, in my current group, state that they are bored and then leave.

To keep the masses in the frontier, there needs to be something...little bit of rp's would go a long way in keep folks from going off xp'n while their realm is retaking keeps (I'm willing to bet most still don't have 50's)

You mustn't assume that your personal situation is a reflection of every other person that has logged in to Uthgard.

Offtopic: Getting RRs only with killing npcs and getting keeps. (There were a lot of grps who ignored rvr fights and only do these tasks - ping pong keep fights without defending)

Ontopic: Keeps give Boni & DF access. (+ the possibility of enemy incs)

Make a reward cap. 5-10x a day you get rps for a keep/mission and then nothing.
Hope GMs are fine with what they have stated, that they are fine with just 80 people (300ppl was Trishin Statement long time ago) playing the game under their vision.
Its important to leave this server running doesn't matter how low the numbers will be. The other servers can fail but Uthgard still will be there, thats Uthgards only chance.

Edit 19/09/21: Well Uthgards chance has come.

I think it would be helpful if it went both ways. Have a rps reward for taking a keep. keep it low, and capped, like Pao said.

But I think defending should also have a reward. I would suggest the defending realm get like x1.1 or x1.2 the rps per kill while defending a keep.

Need to have reward/incentive for defending too, or it will encourage keep trading.

I don't see how that is the situation being "abused". Seems to be working as intended. Keeping people in frontiers thus creating more action and giving the server and player base longevity. If the reward is small enough or even limited to a daily or weekly amount then I can't see how there could be an issue.

Intended means PvE for RPs in your opinion?

Without limitation => abuse, means ignoring players and only focusing on pve targets (keeps, guards)

With limitation => log in and go for daily/weekly task, wait for reset and repeat (You can see this behaviour in modern mmos like wow, rift and co)

The spirit of DAoC is a endless conflict between 3 realms in my opinion. The focus is on RvR versus players, not keeps or npcs. Keeps are only a different "landscape" for other fighting styles and tacticts.

You do get rewards for taking keeps. Extra dmg and rps.

Yeah, having more keeps means you will defend them for these bonuses, and you get DF.

Some people enjoy taking keeps as opposed to be farmed by 8mans. Where's the harm in say, 250-500 rps for taking a keep? If people were to "abuse" that then good on them. That's dedication. This keeps people in frontier zones and away from having to keep rolling alts for their pve fix.

I don't like that we are trying to force people to play the game a certain way. The more options available the more diverse the community. The more diverse the community the less likely the server will repeat its history of being a hardcore 8 man playground.

Im all for a realistic 1.65 recreation and rewards for keep takes were not part of that, but keep raids right now are hell boring, because they are over super fast and if you do not have a strong force roaming already there is no way you can defend a keep. It gets worse by not being able to log out twinks in your guild keep. I understand its because it got abused by stalker classes.
But the truth is without logged out defenders keep raids are stupid boring and only serve the purpose of getting DF open.

I am sure there needs to be some kind of incentive or mechanic change concerning the log out inside keeps

Solution could be you can always log in if your realm still owns the keep, even under siege.
If your realm does not own the keep you are ported to home or portal keep.

Otherwise I think RPs for keep taking could be an incentive. Like 200 RP per keep take, thats not much, but it would feel like some reward at least.
