They are working to make this a game that people want to play. Which means they will have to play if they give you everything there is no point in investing time. This is a MMORPG that means you build a toon you invest a ton of time playing and learning the game then you try to learn to master it.

If you want to jump into a game and be on par with everyone else this might not be the game for you. Yes the leveling grind is hard for some folks this is to cut out those who wont play the game over a long period of time anyways.

Think about it like this 1-30 is pretty easy to get in a week maybe 2 After this you go from 40-50 in about 2 weeks or 4 just depends on how much you played. So this would in all be about a month and a half.

This would give you time to learn to play the game. If you take this people from lvl 1 to 50 in a week what's the point. Have you never grouped with people who have no idea how to play their class. Just think of how bad it will be at 50 trying to do keep takes or relic raids with all these players who have no idea what skills or utility they have because they blew through the levels and rushed to 50.

I have been in groups with bards who just sat afk in a group and have no idea how to switch from endo to speed or mana song while also having a tank who does not know what engage is or how to use more then just Slam and side styles.

So please keep in mind you will always have players who do rvr the difference is that most of them didn't sit afk while someone else pl'd their toons for them.

I, like many others on this server, have been playing DAoC since closed beta in 2001. I've leveled dozens on characters to 50 on several servers in that time including on Uthgard 1.0. I might have needed a FEW hours to relearn the game but I sure didn't need 150 hours per character.

Right and THOSE folks still wouldn't know how to master their class if it took 1000 hours to level. While many of us haven't taken much time away from DAoC for these past 15 years.

IMO, the leveling rate shouldn't be set based on the fastest learners OR the slowest learners, but somewhere in between.

If your seeing people who dont know guard....it wasnt because they needed more time leveling.

Besides, rvr skills are usually not learned in pve.

And that brings us back to the name of the topic. Are the Battlegrounds reaaaaally killing RvR now that we have people learning how to play their classes vs none predictable pve mobs? (rhetorical question)

Sure the populating might be taking a hit, due to many factors, summertime being the biggest I would think. but in the long run I have hopes that freshing dinged toon at level 50 will have more RvR experience and Realmranks to asssit their realms in the Big Boy battles.

And if you cant find any action, knock down some keeps, if you take enough of them people will show! (shoutout to Splitquick lol)

MK lost over 60-70% of our members during the last 3-4 months..

it wasn't because of the XP rates/drops rates/ or even the Bgs.

most reached lv 50 got temped, RvRed for a few weeks. and felt overwhelmed in RvR . getting Overly out matched in RvR.
one of my old budys left the game the moment a zerker hit him for over 1k damage. dropping him in a second. many fallowed suit.
but mostly it was people Not enjoying dieing every time they went out. they wanted to play the End game RvR. but didn't have the mind set to keep trying after loosing 90% of the time.

Now MK is finally stabilizing. learning how to play there chars right. but with the loss of so many its hard to recover.
with most of the guild RR3-4 VS RR8-9 mids is laughable for 8man RvR. So we zerg until we get better.

to be honest i think alot of MK guildies would still be here if the BG patch happend sooner. at least they would have had a place to enjoy them selfs. after dieing in main RvR

DAoC is Not casual friendly. and sadly most of the server are Casual players. and that's where we need to aim at.

I could say almost the exact thing about Myth. Very few Mythies complained that it took to long to level. MANY of them did quit after level 50 AND tinplating because RvR wasn't much fun. I have hopes that some of them will return if Uthgard staff finds a way to put more fun into big boy RvR.

The whole point is people need to learn the game you can't invest the time to reach end game don't play.

Pretty sure this is why all the new games that are out blow b/c people expect to get cap lvl in 2 days and then if they can't they ****** about it.

Playing since 2001 means nothing I played beta for daoc and started day one launch so what's the deal.

sorry my friend, i hate it too, I love 8 man RvR. but when you have a month of running into the same high RR mids every night you get really frustrated and wana win a few rounds too.

This same issue exists in almost every PvP game.

You've got wolves and sheep.

Many people think they are wolves, and they're really the sheep. The true wolves are few, but effective. The trick is making the game enjoyable for the wolves and the sheep at the same time. Nobody wants to be a sheep - continually farmed and culled for somebody else's gain. Inevitably, these people will leave if they are unable to compete or meaningfully progress in their own way.

DAoC is a cutthroat game where you can get twenty people mez'd at once and pick them apart with a group of eight players. It's not forgiving. The skill ceiling is high, and the skill floor is low - meaning that as a baseline player, you *need* to know how to play and what to do because the game isn't going to hold your hand or make it easy. You will sit out the entire fight mez'd or rooted if you screw up. You will get three shotted if you don't have a templated character with resists. You will wipe your entire group if you break CC on a critical enemy player who then capitalizes on your folly. If you aren't panning around while you run, you will get sideswiped and destroyed in mere minutes.

If you aren't able to compete or aren't willing to - you inevitably need another path to progression that doesn't involve head on fights or even numbers. Zerging - keeps - relic raids - etc. The more of these alternate routes exist, the more casual people that will be able to progress to at least practice or do something they find enjoyable.

In Ultima Online, this happened when they split the worlds between Felucca and Trammel - one being open RvR and the other being a safe zone and consensual RvR only. The downside of non-consensual RvR is that the big bad wolf will come and eat your innards out, over and over again.

Something that I doubt can be fixed, but in terms of fighting in keeps... they're pretty miserable. Getting LoS out to hit attackers often involves jumping on top of precarious walls or simply jumping in place trying to get a spell off mid jump through a wall. Archers shoot through walls. Keep Lords will shoot people down through the walls into the courtyard. Defending a door generally requires PBAOE from inside and that's about it. It's not a *main* issue, but it's one of the death by 1000 cuts that makes it frustrating. The internals of many of these Old Frontier keeps look like they were designed by attackers to be as terrible for defenders as possible.

I mean, if someone wanted to retexture some NF keeps so they didn't look like giant lighthouses I'd be down to plop some down instead... for science :>
