I'm getting some serious linkdead problems. I go linkdead, on average, about 7 times per hour.

I dont have any firewalls active. Sometimes the game will run smoothly, but for no longer than 20 minutes or so before it goes linkdead again. It seems to get worse each day.

My account name is koleck, and my main character is Laflayus. It also happens on my friend's account that plays here. His account name is gp20vb42 and his main character's name is Unnoticed.

I put the names because I saw in another thread that it would help if you knew them.

Please help me fix this! It's really annoying!

I'm having the exact same issues as Laflayus here. I'm guessing it's my crappy netgear acting up... although I did read about the server having some issues as well, so I'm wondering if these problems can be connected to that?

Outside of Cisco stuff, Net-Gear is some of the best stuff you can get...

Link-Dead Issues
Bandwidth Limits (see if other people are downloading, or playing games on your network)
Background Programs (make sure everything but DAoC is closed)
Slow Connection (usually connections less then 1mbps down will cause LD)

Expensive stuff is always good, but if you buy a 4 port router for the cheapest price you can find -- it probably doesn't matter what brand it is. :P

I've read lots of people are having problems with this particular router (NetGear RP614v4) as well, getting timeouts from IRC, MSN, etc... I have those problems too, but they never affected games before, probably because it's UDP traffic and doesn't notice the effects of a short millisecond (or w/e it can be) timeout. Perhaps DAoC is more sensitive about those sort of things...

Anyway, I'll shut as many connections as possible (MSN, etc) to see if that fixes it.

Thanks.

You're right, a router's price doesn't necessarily say how good it is, but by saying that it doesn't matter what router you have, makes you an idiot.
[2]
The problem isn't the router, it's the retards that use them. Learn to configure it. Google Port-Forward, or turn of NAT.
[3]
More generally then not lag/connectivity is caused by a pinch in your WWW connection somewhere. Although, providers, and service tech's usually blame it on your router/network setup.

Uh, I said pretty much the opposite of that. You could say Netgear is next best to Cisco if you like, but a 4 port standard cheap home router doesn't have to be good just because netgear made it.

And how do you figure port-forwarding or NAT has anything to do with linkdeath?

The router was the problem -- it couldn't handle enough connections. Turning off MSN and a few other programs fixed it.

Time to buy a new and better one I guess, no matter what brand it is.

Your English is broken, I cannot even understand what you're saying here.

Simple, NAT (firewall) will block your packets, and thus causing LD.

No, if your problem is that you have too many programs going, then it's your computer/internet connection bandwidth. That has NOTHING to do with your router.

why are u then? complaining about someones english is not what has been questioned here. so if u wanna complain, go n do ur own thread @ /dev/null. thx.

/ontopic

try to connect to the inet without your router. if same problems appear, its either the connection to ur isp (to slow or laggy) or its ur pc. if problems wont come back, its ur router. port forwarding can help, but must not. (i did no port forwarding for anything else than t*rr*nt here, works without problems) disable firewall inside ur router if enabled and test again. disable antivir, test again..etc.. there are too many problems that can occur, but mostly its kinda simple. if ur friend got the same problems.. are u sharing the connection? got the same isp? anything else that is similar?

No it's my crappy router that can't handle enough connections. I know what the issue is and it has been fixed by turning off a few programs. :P

I've got a 24Mbps connections here, so I doubt that would be the problem.

Your English is broken, I cannot even understand what you're saying here.

You're the one using expressions such as "more generally than not", not me.

What I'm saying is pretty simple: you can't say that NetGear is "some of the best stuff you can get" because the brand name doesn't dictate the quality of the router -- the price does. If you buy a cheap netgear router you will get a crappy netgear router, and if you buy an expensive one you will get a good router.

No, if your problem is that you have too many programs going, then it's your computer/internet connection bandwidth. That has NOTHING to do with your router.

Are you kidding me?

Now that's something I can agree to. Stay away from this thread mr "pinch in the WWW connection".
