Just started a hunter and realised pet is stealing exp.

So I wanted to ask if the help of a pet is worth the amount of exp it is stealing.

I know there are useful pets like Arachite priests, but besides that, do, e.g. dogs make leveling so much smoother that they are worth the xp?

To add to this, is there a pet guide anywhere that is relevant to 1.65?

I figured it would be ~30% like all other pets. The only real benefit that the hunter pet brings is the multi-attacker bonus.

The pet itself hits like a wet kipper.

If I remember correctly it should be based on the amount of damage they do. Hunter's pet is pretty weak so it shouldn't steal much. If it allows you to take less hits per mob, use it.

That being said, Uthgard seems to currently have an "issue":

Pets on Uth leech ZERO Xp at all. I was able to prove that and its quite bugged. Will rewrite that portion of code to behave original.

Only pet heals seem to leech XP, as for now.

Thanks for the replies.

I think pet now correctly steals exp, at least I tested it and got lower xp than without it.

Btw @ Trainwrex: Here(http://charm.enygma.net/huntguide.html) is a pet guide.

This is exactly as I remember it as well. From a mechanics standpoint, it also makes a lot of sense that the original developers would have approached it this way. Rate of XP stolen by pets should factor the rate of XP the pet class is capable of vs. non pet classes over a sustained period of time. The principal here should be to "balance" out XP gain rates to some semblance of an even playing field (a lofty idea, given the very wide variance of skills and abilities of other classes).

I do hope that the current implementation isn't a "blanket application" percentage across all pet classes, because some class-specific pet strengths do not equate to those of others (e.g. Enchanter vs. Druid vs. Hunter, etc.), and other mechanics factor pet capability and associated challenges/dangers (FnFs, charmed pets, etc.).

I see that Blue made that post about looking into it, and I reviewed the notes in that thread, however, Is there a Dev post patch by Uthgard staff or Blue that discusses the mechanics of how it is implemented here (e.g. how the math is calculated)? That would likely quell a good deal of the speculation that is out there. Some people are simply terrified to group with the likes of pet classes right now (which negates the balance issue outlined above).

Contra: - Pet sucks some xp, but not much.
- It also can`t hold aggro, no taunt, not much enough damage.
- And its wrongly take not the first hit from a mob, when u place it between u and mob (uthgard bug), so u get early rupt.
- Pets stop following target enemies, when they outrun them for about 3-4k locs (think its the range, when u can see mobs first), then the pet just stand arround. If the enemy comes back into range, pet start to attack again (this is uthgard bug -> Normally the pet should follow the target for about 50k locs and then just turn back to hunter (i remember from live, my bd pets followed a minstrel back from uppland to his atk, where at least killed by teleport guards...not so here  )

Pro: - like cirath wrote pet hits for 40-50 constantly (to avoid evade strafe backwards, sneaks dont have all arround evade 8) )
- if u wanna kill some sorc with stunpet or chanter with snarepet your pet is worth mithril :D
- rupt potential vs casters, minstrel flute etc...
- aggro pet can desneak stealther when close enough
- using true sight, send your pet and sneak again...your pet starts attack, maybe hit bubble away, while u can aim
- and so on, there are so much tactics using a pet, even a weak one like hunter avatar.

The formula is
Pet steals a maximum of 25% exp.
The 25% exp is proportional to the damage it does.
If the pet does 10% of the damage on the target he would steal 2.5% exp.
If the mob is killed at 100% by the pet he would steal 25% of the exp.
Reminder to Self: Quality over Quantity, what is the Value here?
