I just started crafting alchemy after i downloaded the patch....im jwing wondering if herbcraft should be leveling up with alchmey or if alchemy just levels up by itself.

When you are using herbs in your Alchemy recipes then you'll also have a chance to raise Herbcraft on each successful attempt. But since Herbcraft is only a secondary skill it can never go higher than Alchemy.
