New to DAoC. I initially planned to play whatever class was most underplayed, but I heard that the pet classes in this game were a lot different than other MMOS. Now I want to roll one.

So which pet class do you find most fun, or what are the differences between the pet classes? It's a bit difficult to find information on how they compare (in terms of play style).

edit: Realized I probably should have posted this in General Topics instead of RvR. My bad.

Most funny I find

a) the Enchanter due to the perma-Snare pet (makes me rofl all day long when kiting some highly trained Armsman or such )

b) Mentalist with one of the See Hidden pets of Darkness Falls: Just set it to aggro and wait until it snaps! 8)

Ok, quick summary of pet classes:

Classic Pet Classes:

Cabalist (Alb), Enchanter (Hib), Spiritmaster (Mid) are pet classes with self-conjured pets. They share the same concept but differ in gameplay dependent on their specialization. A common specialization is pet puller spec. You cast a shield on the pet that causes damage each time your pet is attacked by a foe. General gameplay: Cast dmg-shield on pet. Command it to attack several blue to yellowish monsters. Wait till monsters "kill themselves". Regen mana break. Rinse and repeat.

Shrouded Isles Pet Classes:

Necromancer (Alb): Conjures an undead minion and becomes a shade. The player can not be attacked in shade form. The player returns to normal state with 5-10% hitpoints when his minion dies. Most common specialization is Deathsight spec with a damage dealing mana leech ability. Most sustainable class ever.

Bonedancer (Mid): Conjures 1 main skeleton minion and up to 3 additional smaller skeleton minions. Most common specialization is suppression that empowers the Bonedancer to create healing minions and access to a instant lifellech spell.

Animist (Hib): Conjures uncontrollable stationary mushrooms that fight for him. Creeping path probably is the most common spec. Enables the Animist to conjure up to 20? mushrooms with a certain lifespan that deal a good amount of single target damage.

Classic classes with pet gimmicks:

Theurg (Alb): Conjures uncontrollable fire and forget pets from far distances that then follow and attack the targeted enemy until their lifespan ends.

Mentalist (Hib): When specialized in Way of the Sun (Nuker), may charm any monster in the game up to a certain level. Max charmable level depends on level of Way of Sun spec and Way of Sun item bonus. The charm is recast every 10 seconds. If the charm fails, the monster aggros you. May control red or even purple monsters.

Minstrel (Alb): Instrument spec allows to charm monsters. More or less same mechanic as Mentalist. Quality of instrument used slightly increases the duration of the charm pulse.

Hunter (Mid): Beastcraft specialization enables the hunter to conjure a wolf pet. Another skill enables the hunter to permanently control any animal or insect type monster. Max pet level is roundabout 4/5 of the hunters level.

Sorcerer (Alb): Mind specialization allows the sorcerer to permanently control any given monster up to lvl50.

Most fun for me was playing a minstrel. The charm on high level monsters can be unreliable but it is so much fun to attack players or monsters with high level mobs. xD

Hope this helps.

Best regards
Fjalla
